Get Your Hands Off My UNII!

Hi Girls!

I spent the better part of last weekend depotting my eye shadows so that I could use them in my latest attempt at cosmetic organization – The UNII Palette. I first saw these on frmheadtotoe’s YouTube channel and it looks like they have been around for at least two years. So, UNII is pronounced like “unique” and isn’t an acronym for which is what I thought it was at first.

It has now gotten to the point where I’m having to open multiple individual eye shadows to put together certain looks so when I discovered UNII palettes, I figured this would be a fantastic way to put all of my eye shadows all in one place and save myself same space and time. I purchased two UNII palettes in Turquoise and Honeysuckle at $26 each and shipping to BC was $7.

The instructions are written on the inside of the box, so you need to tear at the dotted line! For some reason, I really love packaging like this! Each UNII palette comes with a sheet of magnets just in case some of your depotted makeup pans are not magnetic. Most are, and I only maybe had to write labels for one or two.DSCF3780

Some companies like MAC and our new Canadian favourite, Pandora’s Makeup Box sell their eye shadows and blushes as refills so the name of the shade is already on the back of the pan. Otherwise, I just use a Sharpie to write the brand and colour on the back.

For now this is what my UNII palette looks like! It is all the colours I reach for daily. I will use the Honeysuckle palette for the more vivid and bright colours that I wouldn’t wear every day. The flower-like piece is a rubber thumb grip so you have a place to hold the palette while you use the mirror above. You can move it around based on how you arrange your pans. Cute, eh?

Now, I’ve got some extra space in my train case and everything I use all the time is in one spot! I also have to say that depotting is my new favourite Zen activity…I think I was at it until 1am or 2am until my fiance begged me to stop and go to bed! I have found that I have a number of the Lancome quads that have really multiplied with each Gift with Purchase so I think it would be a good idea to depot all of the ones I have and just have them all together. Would any of you benefit from a UNII palette?

  3. That is a really good idea - and whoever came up with it is brilliant! And if you buy new products, just buy the refill, it is usually cheaper!

    1. Exactly! As nice as packaging is at the beginning, it gets cumbersome over time.

  5. I have never heard of this, but I've seen lots of people blogging about de-potting lately! It sounds like it is a fair amount of work? I love the look of this palette and both of the colours you picked!

  11. How do they compare to the Z-palette? I picked up a couple of those a while back, but haven't gotten around to de-potting yet.

The UNII is so pretty! I want one in every colour... but maybe I'll wait to see if they go on sale.

    Thanks Jayne!

    1. I think they're pretty similar. I don't own any of the Z-palettes, but all I know is that the UNII palette has a mirror on the top portion and closes a little bit differently in that it has an extra plastic "hinge" that "clicks" the palette shut. I think the Z-palette is magnetic. What's nice about the Z-palettes is the variety in size! I just liked the appearance of the UNII more ;-)
