Review - The Body Shop Soft Cleansing Sponge

Hi Everyone!

I just thought I’d share a fun little tool that I’ve incorporated into my skincare routine! It’s the Soft Facial Cleansing Sponge from The Body Shop and it’s made entirely of cellulose. I picked this up because I have been trying to reduce the number of cotton pads I’ve been using and wanted a more environmentally-friendly option.

The cleansing sponge is nice and soft when sealed up, but once it’s taken out, it does harden so before using it, you do need to dampen it. I have been using this to remove my makeup at the end of the day, so what I‘ll do is pour cleansing milk onto it and then just start scrubbing away! It’s gentle enough to use everyday and the sponge’s texture just lightly buffs at the skin’s surface. Once I’m done, I just rinse it out making sure all the makeup has been washed out and then I let it dry for next time!

I’ve been really pleased with how this has been working out and I feel like I’m being a little more kind to the environment. I still have to use cotton pads for removing eye makeup because the sponge is probably a bit harsh for the delicate eye area. You can get loofah sponges at drugstores which work in a similar way if you aren’t able to get to a Body Shop.

What do you guys think about using a cleansing sponge? Or do you prefer cotton pads?

  1. Hmm interesting, I wonder if there is something reusable that's soft enough to use on the eyes?

  2. I use a wash cloth to remove makeup, which is also environmentally friendly. but I do use cotton pads for my toner.

    1. Ah yes, I used to use a washcloth too, but I hated doing so much laundry! I use cotton pads for toner too, but I always forget to use toner...so bad...

    1. I think they're supposed to last awhile, but I guess like any sponge if it starts to disintegrate or feel not quite as good then it's time to throw it out?

  6. I bought the Clarisonic Mia Sonic Skin Cleansing System earlier this year upon the recommendations of several bloggers. I therefore rarely use cotton pads to remove my makeup. Nail polish is another matter altogether.

I am however thinking about picking up one of these sponges the next time I'm at The Body Shop as it certainly would be a great alternative for when I'm traveling and trying to minimize what comes with me. Thank you for the review!

    1. I have been hearing so many good things about the Clarisonic Mia!! I'll have to seriously look into it for the future! OMG, nail polish... Glitter uses so many cotton pads! I hope you like the Body Shop sponge! It was only $5 so it might be worthwhile to try.

    1. I use so many cotton pads as it is for removing nail polish so if I can reduce my usage just a little bit, I'll be happy and I guess so will Mother Nature!
