Review–the Balm Plump Your Pucker Sheer and Tinted Gloss

I have just begun my foray into the world of the Balm and everything from their packaging to their saucy product names to the actual product quality has me falling in love!

I recently picked up a Plump your Pucker Sheer and Tinted Gloss ($15 USD) in Cocoa My Coconut (hehe…) which is formulated with menthol and vitamin C and promises to increase circulation as well as reduce the appearance of fine lines. The formula  also features a special ingredient called “Maxi-lip” that is supposed to hydrate your lips while making them look more plump. I wonder which ingredient in the list you really are!

Packaging: This is a standard lip gloss tube with a doe-foot applicator. Nothing too crazy. This isn’t the cutest of the Balm packaging as their blushes and shadows come in much more racy packaging.

Scent: Minty! It also actually smells more like milk chocolate than like coconut and I thought that the scent was a standard for all of the lip glosses, but when I went to London Drugs to have a sniff of Squeeze My Lemons, it smelled like minty lemons! Every colour smells different!

Formula: As you can see, there is some decent colour payoff and I absolutely love the minty tingle on my lips! It’s not uncomfortable though, like Duwop Venom. That stuff is brutal! No wonder your lips look bigger. It’s because of inflammation! Cocoa My Coconut is a beautiful nude that I’ve actually been wearing everyday this week because I’ve been loving it that much. In terms of coverage, it is a true gloss, not one that has the colour opacity of a lipstick like Lancome’s creme La Laque Fever lip glosses. Now, I haven’t really noticed that my lips have gotten any more plump thanks to “Maxi-lip” so I feel like it’s more of a marketing thing…regardless, I thought the formula was good.

Final Verdict: There are 10 other colours in 10 wonderfully delectable scents so this certainly isn’t going to be my last Plump Your Pucker! I have to admit that a big part of the appeal for me is the minty fresh feeling on my lips and the fact that it smells like dessert! Nonetheless, this is a great gloss and I do recommend it, but if you don’t care for sensation or scent, you probably already have a gloss like this that costs less, so then I’d say give it a pass.

Has anyone tried any other Plump Your Puckers?

  1. omg that's how I felt when I first picked up one of The Balm products...I believe it was their concealer. I love their packaging and names!
The color of this lip gloss is really pretty! I haven't tried their lip products, but I love anything that has that minty tingle without that uncomfortable feeling lol. I remember trying those Sally Hansen lip plumper lip gloss and it felt so weird! It was like my lips were burning? I can't remember the exact feeling...but I definitely like the minty feeling! :D

    1. OMG, the SH ones I was actually allergic to! My top lip would get this inflammatory ring around it and it lasted for DAYS! You're right, the sensation was definitely akin to burning!

  2. How is it for stickiness? A lipgloss that smells like chocolate milk sounds fantastic! :P

    1. It's not too sticky, but not slippery like the Benefit ones. You don't get the "strings" of lip gloss between your lips.

  3. I think the whole brand "The Balm" is an unsung hero. They have amazing products (some flops but mostly amazing). I only tried my first product from them in December. I need to get my hands on their version of the naked palette... I died when I saw the packaging for the "feeling naughty" Nude Tude. It's frickin adorable! x

    1. I totally agree, the Balm has a fantastic line of products and I only just decided to try them a little while ago. I have found that if you order online with them, we save our Canadian taxes and it's free shipping once you hit $100 which is pretty easy to do! The "feeling naughty" palette is amazing! My friend has it and it's so cute!

    1. I keep forgetting that London Drugs is only a Western Canada thing. We only have LD and Shoppers as main drug stores.

  6. The colour looks like a really wearable and pretty nude. I love minty lip products, so this is right up my alley (even though I don't wear much lip gloss as I prefer lip stain/balms/lipstick) :)

  7. I have no tried many items from The Balm, but I recently saw it pop up in Rexal Pharmaplus and it definately sparked my interest!

You need to try the Buxom Big Healthy Lip Creams...they are AMAZING!!! They feel nice and minty, but dont kill your lips at all!

    1. On my next Sephora haul I will look into the Buxom Lip Creams, because I can't stand my lips getting pricked violently! Thank you for the suggestion!

  8. I think I remember hearing of the Balm but haven't looked into it. Good post! I was hoping this would smell more tropical, as I don't know how I feel about milk chocolate scent for my glosses, but I might give this brand a try.

    1. I would give the other scents a try as there are more fruity scents in the line. I ordered this online, so I took a risk and I was actually hoping it would smell more like Coconut, but luckily chocolate and I mesh well!

  9. where did you pick this up, Jayne? I haven't seen the Balm products in Canada anywhere! I want to check them out but would love to see them in person rather than just order online.

    1. I ordered this guy online so I took a risk, but I was able to look at it first at London Drugs which you guys don't have out East :( It was cheaper on the The Balm website and they have free shipping to Canada over $100 as well.

  11. I haven't tried the Balm yet! I have heard their eye shadows are great but not much on their lip products so this review is great!! I think I saw the product line at Rexall here in Ontario.. might have to take a second look :)
