October 2012 Topbox

This month’s Topbox was probably the first for a lot of people who had signed up for the infamous waitlist months ago, but I have to say that this month’s was probably the first that I was not too thrilled with which I hate saying! There was a good selection of brands in this month’s box and there was actually a product that I was about to buy online, but the arrival of this month’s Topbox stopped me just in time!

Aveda Invanti Shampoo and ConditionerDSCF4253

Thoughts: I do like Aveda’s Rosemary Mint Shampoo as well as their hand cream so I am excited to try a new product from them. The only thing is that the samples are pretty small…10mL is not a lot when you have longer hair. Oh well, I guess it means two easy empties!

Full size: 200mL/$27.00 (Both shampoo and conditioner)

I received: 10mL/$1.35 x 2 = $2.70

MaskerAide Hydrating Facial Sheet Mask in All NighterDSCF4254

Thoughts: This was the item I was going to order on the MaskerAide site, but I wasn’t sure how these would compare with my favourite Asian sheet masks so I was VERY happy to receive one! I am a sheet mask junkie and I would use one every week if I could, but they are expensive for one time usage.

Full size: 1 mask/$4.99

I received: *FULL SIZE*

Stila Eyeshadow PaletteDSCF4255

Thoughts: I think this is a cute way to present the palette as a sample because I know that if Urban Decay handed out Naked samples like these, people would love them! The only reason I’m not more excited about this sample is because I’m actually receiving all three samples of each Stila palette with a Sephora order I just placed so I will have two of these In The Garden palettes!

Full size: 14g/$50.00

I received: No clue, maybe I have 1g/$0.28?

Stila Prime Pot in TaffyDSCF4256

Thoughts: I have a good number of eye primers now, but I have not tried one from Stila and this looks like a good product and in a good sample size too. Let’s see how it compares to Urban Decay’s Primer Potion!

Full size: 0.11oz/$26.00

I received: 0.07oz/$16.55

Total Value of Topbox: $24.52

If it weren’t for the Stila Prime Pot, this month’s Topbox would most likely not have been much more than the $10 monthly fee. Even though this wasn’t the best Topbox, they have been consistently amazing for more than a year straight so I am optimistic for the upcoming months!

  3. I really wanted to try out and love the Stila Prime Pots, but after swatching them in Sephora, both shades are way too dark for me. :-(

I also agree that the palette sample cards are a really great idea. I never know for sure when I buy a palette how many of the colors I'll actually use. Having something like this would be a great way to test them out first.

    1. Oh no! That's too bad that they were both too dark for you! Hopefully Taffy will work for me.

Palettes are bad news for me because there are definitely colours that get neglected and you just feel like it's going to waste.

  4. I've never tried a sheet mask, do they work well? I've been trying to find something like that for a weekly mask but never really know where to start and I'm always worried about what will aggrivate my skin! This box doesn't seem too bad but I hope your next is awesome! (:

    1. Sheet masks are like a blast of moisture for me and I love them to death. I also like pretending that I am a ghost and scaring Casey ;-)

    1. Me too, it's not like it was a bad box just by comparison not quite as good as the others. Everything was very usable though so it's not like I'll have to throw anything out or give it away.

  8. i am still optimistic for the upcoming months too! topbox has been hinting that the next few months will have truly deluxe samples. i think it was mentioned on twitter that only one sample will be close to a one time use. :)

    1. LOL, maybe buy a different colour scheme? Some people said that could only get one use out of each colour, but I don't know...I can see three uses out of each colour for myself!
