Review of the New Make Up For Ever Pro Finish Powder Foundation

Skin with a flawless finish is just in make up fairy tales, right? When it comes to foundation, I am a skeptic. I am usually far too scared to use anything other than mineral foundation or BB cream because a lot of liquid and powder foundations tend to look so cakey on me or further accentuate how dry certain areas of my face are. I will admit that when I got a chance to try Make Up For Ever’s Pro Finish Powder, I had very low expectations. Not because of the company, but because of my previously not so impressive experiences with powder foundations. I have to apologize to the make up gods, because I was SO WRONG.

The first new foundation from Make Up For Ever in 4 years, Pro Finish is a multi-use foundation that can be applied wet for sheer satin coverage or dry for full matte coverage for a flawlessly professional finish. It also comes in 25 shades so there is sure to be a match for everyone!

Pro Finish’s breakthrough formula boasts a Vegetal Lecithin coating that wraps around each pigment to transform the product’s texture so it stays on the skin better, longer and more effectively.  Silica and Sericite powders deliver a light-reflecting, soft focus effect, while Ximenia oil and Aloe Vera powder add comfort and nourishment.
Pro Finish is mineral oil-, fragrance-, and paraben-free and the formula boasts significantly less talc than traditional formulations, eliminating the dreaded chalky, cakey effect often associated with compact foundations.

Some of you commented on how my skin looked in my last review for the All Eyes on You Kit and it was all because of this amazing product! What I am wearing is just Pro Finish applied wet with Aqua Rouge #2 for lip colour. (If you’d like to see me without ANY foundation go here)

Price: $40.00/10g CDN

Packaging: Plastic compact with a mirror and sponge in a bottom compartment.

Formula: The formula is just beautiful. I have the shade 120 in Neutral Ivory and I was literally watching any imperfections just disappear on my face as I applied Pro Finish. While I was doing this review, I actually said,”Wow” to myself in the mirror because my skin looked airbrushed even when I zoomed in. I don’t even experience this level of apparent perfection with mineral makeup! I have fairly good skin, but I do have red veins on my cheeks and a lot of redness around my nose and mouth which all but vanished when I used Pro Finish. After doing a bit more experimenting, I find that applying it wet first and then dry for the areas that need a bit more coverage like my cheeks has worked best. Even with the extra coverage, my face doesn’t look like I’m wearing very much foundation at all! My skin looks brighter, more even in colour and basically…perfect.

Final Verdict: The fact that there is less talc in the Pro Finish formulation has made this foundation so much less cakey in appearance than other foundations I have tried. With primer on my face, this foundation lasts a full work day and then some. I don’t even need setting spray. I know this foundation is of a higher price point, but my experience with Pro Finish has been magical. I actually look forward to what my face will look like after I have applied it! Sephora has such a great return policy that if this doesn’t work for you, just take it back, but using this has been a beauty routine game changer for me! I don’t know what else to say because I am in total awe of this product and what it has done for my skin. This is truly a skin fairy tale come true!

    1. Dry definitely gives you more coverage, but I was scared at the beginning that it would look cakey. I was totally wrong and love using it both ways!

    1. I know, it's hard to order stuff like this online since it's so hard to return that way, but I think there's a sample of this in the month's Sephora beauty deals if you plan on placing an order. Maybe you can try it out that way?

  8. Thats so cool that it can be applied wet or dry. I wish it was a little less expensive, but Make Up Forever is always worth the price.

    1. I know, the price tag is kind of harsh, but for a core make up product like foundation I am willing to spend the money unlike for an eyeshadow that I would use all the time.
