May | 2013 Empties!

Here I am with my May empties midway through June, but I get such a kick out of these posts! I was explaining to my “real world” friends about these posts and how we all love them and they were like “What? You and your blogger friends collect empty bottles and store them for a month and then show the Internet?!” I guess it is basically me showing all of you my cosmetic garbage! Anyway, it’s the coolest garbage ever so here’s what I managed to get through last month!

1. L’Occitane Divine Eyes (1mL)Thinking smile

Acquired 2012

This was nice, but wasn’t any different from eye creams I have used in the past. It was hydrating, had a pleasant scent, but isn’t something I would be running out to purchase.

2. L’Occitane Precious Eye Balm (1mL)Thinking smile

Acquired 2012

I liked the thicker consistency of this eye cream, but again it wasn’t something that wowed me.

3. Elizabeth Arden Visible Difference Night Cream (15mL)Thumbs up

Acquired Nov 2012

I actually quite enjoyed this moisturizer as it is a purple gel/cream formula that feels almost like a moisture-intense mask. It had a pleasant floral scent as well. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for the day cream…I’m still trying to get through the sample…

4. Mary Kay Enriched Moisturizer (110mL)Thumbs down

Acquired Jan 2009

I am SO HAPPY that this is finally used up! I stopped using it because it wasn’t hydrating enough for me which is why I have only just finished it! I know it’s 4 years old, but I’ve never been one to stick to expiration dates. It smelled totally fine and the consistency was the same as when I first purchased it. This was definitely an empty that I had to force myself to finish!

5. Elizabeth Arden Prevage Anti-Aging Daily Serum (7mL)Thumbs down

Acquired Oct 2012

This serum was creamy, hydrating and bright orange, but my God is it ever expensive at $159 per bottle! I didn’t notice a miraculous difference so I won’t be rushing out to get the full size any time soon, My other serums work just fine!

6. skoah Hydradew Mask (10mL)Thumbs up

Acquired Mar 2013

This little sample size had to tide me over because my local skoah was out of stock of the full size version, but I have mentioned this as a favourite in the past and it is a product I always have in stock because it gives my skin a blast of moisture whenever I use it. It also smells like honeydew which helps!

7. Lush Cosmetic Warrior Fresh Face Mask (60g)Thumbs down

Acquired May 2013

I knew it smelled like garlic, but I have to say that this was not my favourite mask…I didn’t notice a huge difference in my skin afterwards so that combined with the scent has made me not want to repurchase this. I am open to trying other fresh face masks though so if you guys have any suggestions, please let me know!

8. L’Oreal Studio Secrets Smoothing Perfecting Primer (1mL)Thumbs down

Acquired January 2013

I found this primer a bit sticky? It didn’t glide across my face like say Benefit’s Porefessional. Instead, it started rolling off my skin in “primer globs”…no thank you…

9. Befine Pore Refining Treatment Scrub (10mL)Thinking smile

Acquired Aug 2012

Not a fan of the smell, but it did make my skin feel very supple and smooth after use. The scrub granules were large, but fairly gentle. I might pick this up if it were on sale or more readily available to me, but I have not seen this in any stores in my area. London Drugs used to carry Befine, but it has been years since I have seen their products.

10. Biotherm Aquasource Deep Serum (1mL)Thinking smile

Acquired May 2013

This is what I consider a “sticky serum” which is not my favourite consistency. I prefer cream serums, but this serum had a very fresh scent and was quite hydrating.

11. mG Strawberry Yogurt Whitening Mask (1 piece)Thumbs up

Acquired Apr 2013

Mmmm, this smelled so nice and was VERY hydrating. I couldn’t tell if it actually whitened my skin after one use, but then again, I don’t really feel like being more white…I like being golden brown :)

12. Mary Kay Indulge Soothing Eye Gel (3g)Thumbs down

Acquired Jan 2009

This stuff burns when you put it under your eyes which is why I stopped using it so long ago! I had to use it as a body cream to get the sample finished so no thank you to repurchasing!

13. Mud mask from a past Glymm Box? (10g)Thumbs down

Acquired 2012

This was so hard that I couldn’t get a good paste out of it, but I did my best! For a mask, I would prefer something that lasted a bit longer in spreadable form!

14. Origins A Perfect World Skin Guardian (30mL)Thumbs up

Acquired Feb 2013

This product was in my April Luvs post so I won’t talk about it too much here, but this is a wonderful serum/moisturizer/primer and smelled citrusy too! Totally getting this again!

15. yes to blueberries Brightening Facial Towelettes (30 towelettes)Thumbs up

Acquired Jan 2013

This is another product that made it into my March Luvs post that truly made my skin feel fresh and clean. Some wipes leave behind a residue, but not these! The whole “yes to” line is one that I have been loving since last year and I will definitely repurchase these!

16. L’Occitane Bonne Mere Gentle Cream in Milk (75mL)Thumbs up

Acquired Jul 2012

I love love this stuff so too bad that it was limited edition! It was a face/hand/body cream and it was creamy, hydrating and quick absorbing. I would repurchase this in a heartbeat!

17. L’Occitane Extra Gentle Soap (100g)Thumbs up

Acquired 2012

I keep getting these soaps in gift with purchase so I’ve never had to buy them yet, but they are wonderful! They smell rich and are luxuriously creamy. If you have dry skin, these soaps are made with shea butter leaving your skin perfectly moisturized.

18. Fresh Seaberry Restorative Body Cream (65mL)Thumbs up

Acquired Jul 2013

Weird smell, but felt so nice on my skin! This was a thicker moisturizer, but my goodness was it ever nice! I only used it on my legs because it smelled so “herbal” that I didn’t want to scare people off!

19. Garnier Intensive 7 Days Gel Cream (6mL)Thumbs up

Acquired May 2013

As small as this sample was, I loved how light it was and with summer coming up, I am looking for a lighter moisturizer. I have already bought the full size of this!

20. Jergens Ultra Care Moisturizer (5mL)Thinking smile

Acquired May 2013

This was a pretty good moisturizer, but I don’t know why Jergens doesn’t interest me at all. It just seems like something I would only get if it was on sale, so this is just a maybe for me.

21. Fruits & Passion Pomelo Granite Moisturizing Body Gel (40mL)Thumbs up

Acquired Apr 2013

I cannot get enough of this scent! I already have the full size of this and I know this will be one of my go to scents for the summer!

22 & 23. Fruits & Passion Limoncello Body Cream (10mL)Thinking smile

Acquired May 2013

This was also a great scent and very moisturizing! I do prefer the Pomelo Granite scent a little bit more so this will sit at a maybe for me as the two are fairly similar.

24. AG Hair Cosmetics Smooth Sleek Argan Conditioner (59mL)Thinking smile

Acquired Nov 2012

This worked when I first started using it and it kind of just left my hair feeling soft, but not sleek. It was a little frizzy actually, but I think it might be the humidity. I might come back to this line from AG later on, but for now I will move on from it.

25. Julep Quick Dry Polish Drops (30mL)Thumbs up

Acquired Oct 2012

I love these quick dry drops and I have talked about them in November Luvs singing their praises! When these went on sale on Boxing Day, I bought six! These have changed the way I paint my nails and I can never go back!

26. B.Kamins Bio-Maple Lip Balm (4mL)Thumbs down

Acquired Sept 2012

I really didn’t like this and it was horrendous to get through at the end…there is no scent and the consistency was not great as a lip balm. It wasn’t smooth and didn’t last on my lips even when I wasn’t eating or drinking.

27. Sally Hansen Massaging Cuticle Oil Treatment (2.6mL)Thumbs up

Acquired 2007

I loved this because it has a massaging tip with tiny little rubber bristles which is great when someone (ahem, the fiance) gives foot massages! I used every last drop and I believe it’s discontinued now so I will have to move on to my many other cuticle oils! I would totally get this again if I could!

And that’s all for my May empties! For June, I am determined to finish more full sized items and fewer samples! Off I go!

  2. Yeah...the idea of saving up trash to show the internet is a little weird. Too bad I love these posts too! It's nice to know what people think about products after they've used them up completely, and I personally like showing off how many beauty products I've finished up since they take so darn long to finish. LOL Nice job on finishing products in May! I'm really impressed you finished that balm that was awful. I would have given up and thrown the darn thing away.

    1. I like showing off my "number" too! I hate letting products get the better of me so I always force myself to finish them!

  3. Some LUSH products just don't work for everybody!

I had such high hopes for the "cupcake" face mask but that one just didn't cut it. My skin did not feel clean or refreshed afterwards. I would recommend the "love lettuce" mask... it is part scrub (with the almond bits in it) and part moisturizing mask (from the honey). I have oily skin and after using it my face felt clean but hydrated! Such a nice feeling!

  7. I just did my first empties post for May. When I first was introduced to the idea, I had the same reaction as your friends: saving garbage for a whole month?" But I really enjoy reading others' empties post. I haven't tried Yes To towelettes. Have to check it out next time I'm at Shoppers Drug Mart. You're so good at recalling dates you got your goodies. I just wish products will have manufacturing dates and expiry dates. Sometimes I find products which have been sitting for so long and not sure I can still use them.

  9. I've been curious about the yes to- wipes! I hate wipes that leave behind that residue, it's good to know these don't. I may have to check them out! The packaging looks so cute, too. :)

  11. I'm still debating whether to jump onto this empties bandwagon or not ^^ Seems like the best wat to do the ultimate review about a product : ) Thanks for your mini reviews Jayne xx

  12. I also have one of those Sally Hansen cuticle pens.. I love it but haven't used it in ages, I should get on that :)

  13. I love saving all my empties, makes me feel super acomplished, especially since I am one to never finish anything. It also makes me want to try to finish products before I buy more, even though I cheat on that a bit

  14. You always do so well at finishing things! I love empties posts because they give a quick review of products and it's nice supporting each other to finish things up!
