Fuse Gelnamel | Fuse Starter Kit with Swatch of Elec-tric or Treat

Say hello to the teeny, tiniest most cutest gel polish LED curing lamp! When I saw the Fuse Gelnamel Starter Kits ($39.99) at Shoppers Drug Mart a few months ago there was nothing to stop me from squealing with delight at how “kawaii” and compact the LED lamp was! There are six starter sets available each with a different coloured polish. I received the one with a glittery pink called “Gone Fission”, but will be swatching a bright coral polish called “Elec-tric or Treat” that is sure to be a colour for the summer season!

You can either plug the LED lamp into a wall outlet or a USB port!

You can do either one nail at a time OR take the lamp off, turn it around and do your toes!

This is Elec-tric or Treat all on its own with two coats. You can still see some visible nail line, but you will definitely need to do two coats. One coat was far too sheer for me and when I found that one coat chipped and peeled much more easily than two coats of polish.

Final Verdict: I wore a full mani of Elec-tric or Treat for 5 full days with no wear or chipping at all! I actually expected nothing less than this level of wear so Fuse Gelnamel definitely lived up to my expectations in that manner. I loved the convenience of having an LED lamp that could plug into my laptop which means that traveling with this little kit would be such a peach as I could just throw everything in my purse!

There were a few observations that I made note of that may or may not influence your decision to purchase this starter kit:

  • the LED lamp is meant for one nail at a time which means that if each nail takes 30s to cure, you are looking at a total time of 5 minutes if you do one coat of polish. In my case, with two coats it would be 10 minutes
  • the polish is VERY viscous and does not self-level very quickly so be patient! You can see I wasn’t patient enough with some nails and I cured it while it was still streaky.
  • the polish is an all in one so no base or top coat is necessary, but my nails were very stained upon removal so I would almost wear a base coat the next time I go “FUSING”

The extra time that is required for curing each individual nail is really not that bad in the grand scheme of things considering I wait around a full two hours for real nail polish to FULLY dry (you know the test, tap your nails against each other and have them not feel sticky). The nail staining is probably what is bothering me the most and will take a few months to grow out, but the actual wear time of the Fuse Gelnamel polish was great! I know it says to just wear one thin coat, but my advice is definitely to do two thin coats. You will get better opacity and for some reason, much better wear time!

The LED lamp is really the selling point for me as it’s adorable, convenient and has a little “seat” for your nail so you know exactly where to rest your finger while it’s curing. I am actually very impressed that this little lamp can be converted to be used for pedicures so this is another winning point for the LED lamp! There are so many gel polish nail kits out there so it’s hard to know which one is best, but I feel that if you’re looking for something compact with everything you need that you can be mobile with, this is your kit. Keep it mind that you should use a base coat for more intense colours and you’re good!
