Sigh…Burberry. I feel I almost have to whisper it to capture its reverence. The Burberry colour collection is a fairly new one to me as I am more familiar with this brand for its watches and iconic trenchcoats. Oftentimes with fashion houses that create makeup lines, there is a disconnect between the two, but you won’t find that here with the Burberry Beauty Spring Collection. The Burberry story is evident from the packaging all the way down to the textures and colour palettes. What I love about the Burberry colour collection is how “at home” I feel as every palette and shade is classic and iconic. Eyeshadow palettes have become a new obsession of mine and when I had the opportunity to choose a Complete Eye Palette during the Burberry boutique opening in Richmond Centre in March, I knew I wanted something dramatic, but classic. The No.12 Nude Blush Complete Eye Palette*($64.00 CDN) is a quartet of four richly pigmented shades that have been customized with a luminizing base highlighter, two medium shades for shape and one for lining.
The print on the eyeshadows is inspired by the iconic lines of the Burberry check and architectural columns. I did my best not to disturb the print during swatches. I feel like I need a backup so I can preserve this one in its entirety!
Although, it’s hard to see there is actually just one matte shade in this quartet with even the dark purple liner shade having a hint of sparkle. All four shades swatched so beautifully that I could have kept running the brush all the way around my wrist and there still would have been colour deposited! The eyeshadows were also soft and buttery which meant one swipe of the brush and no need for “double-dipping”.
What I wanted to create with this palette was a smoky eye with a touch of shimmer and a fairly neutral face to keep the focus on the eyes.
Burberry Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base No.1 Nude Radiance* mixed with Burberry Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Foundation in No.11 Porcelain*.
Burberry Effortless Eyebrow Definer Brow Shaping Pencil No.03 Ash Brown* which is probably darker than what I am normally used to, but over the last week I have had my eyebrows waxed and have learned to use this shade a little better!
Apply Mary Kay Eye Primer all over the lid. Apply the matte mauve shade all over lid all the way up to the brow bone. Using a fluffy brush, apply the dark purple liner shade to other half of lid and bring up and into crease. For some extra shimmer, pat the shimmery bronze shade in the middle of the lid. Using a smudgebrush, repeat same colours on lower lash line in patting motions to reduce fallout. Though I would recommend doing this first and then applying foundation since I still had enough fallout to require cotton swabs and makeup remover.
Using a liner brush, line lower waterline with the dark purple liner shade.
Line upper lash line with Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Black.
Apply Shu Uemura Petal Lash Mascara*.
Apply false lashes. I’m wearing Ardell Purple Colored Lashes. These are so pretty for brown eyes!
Guerlain Meteorites Perles de Blush Angelic Radiance*
Burberry Kisses Hydrating Lip Colour in No. 05 Nude Pink*
Final Verdict: This is a very luxurious palette with its $64 price point, but UGH it’s so pretty and soft…I just want to pet the shadows all day long. The other palettes are just as beautiful and I swear you will want them all. For this particular palette, the colour combination feels somewhat unique and yet workable for anyone. I chose to go a more dramatic route, but the shades can easily be used to create something not quite so smoky. I love all the fine details that Burberry has chosen to include in each of their products as I feel like I truly own a part of the Burberry story.
