MAKEUP | Rimmel London Provocalips Kiss Proof Lip Colour Review & Swatches of “Make Your Move”, “I’ll Call You” and “Play with Fire”

Long-lasting lip colour is all the rage, but there is always a caveat when it comes to just how comfortable they are to wear. Some make your lips feel like plastic, while others dry them out. I am sure I am not the only who has suffered through lips that felt like they didn’t belong on your face and when Rimmel London’s Provocalips ($8.99 CDN) emerged I was honestly expecting pretty much the same, but when you love beauty, past experiences only spur you on to keep trying! Available in 10 luscious shades, Provocalips Kiss Proof Lip Colour promises 16 hours of wear, transfer-proof colour as well as lips that don’t feel tight and uncomfortable. Sure. That’s what they all say, right?

I received the shades: #730 - Make Your Move*, a brick red-brown, #200- I’ll Call You*, a light pink, and #550 - Play with Fire*, an intense red.

STEP 1 involves applying colour with the doe foot applicator and waiting about 60 seconds for the colour to set. The colour is very opaque and as it was drying I noticed right away that while it was drying to that somewhat tight finish it certainly wasn’t as uncomfortable as other long-wear lip products I have tried.

I am super anal about keeping this white doe foot applicator free of colour so I tend to wait longer than 60 seconds before I apply the STEP 2 top coat. This feels almost like a lip balm or something soothing. It also smells wonderful and is something I would even wear alone!

With and without the top coat. You can see that the top coat obviously adds quite a bit of shine, but isn’t as glossy as the MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Rouge lip products. The top coat is incredibly comfortable to wear. Like CRAZY comfortable. It feels like I’m wearing creamy lip balm and that everything should be smudging, but it doesn’t…it’s like sensorially mind-blowing. It just doesn’t make sense that it’s happening and yet it is.

The clear top coat on its own and a shot of the shine factor layered on top of the colour.

I wasn’t planning on showing you my unmade up mug with my bare eyes, but this is what “I’ll Call You” looks like with respect to the rest of my skin tone. This was by far my most favourite colour to wear as it made me look much cooler than I really am ;-) The red was too far outside my comfort zone to wear on a daily basis and the nude shade a little too neutral (and yes, those are Oscar the Grouch earrings).

Final Verdict: Oh, well colour me surprised Rimmel London! Provocalips, you have won my heart! There is a shade for everyone and they are so long-lasting and comfortable (provided you use the top coat) that I don’t feel like it’s a hassle to wear a long-wearing lip product. In my mind, it’s always such a task! The colour is completely transfer-proof provided you cover all areas with the top coat. I somehow missed a section and had transfer in just that area. I know because my cup had colour on just the one side. I love these. I seriously LOVE ‘EM.

Rimmel London Provocalips can be found at all major drugstores across Canada.
