NAILS | Dior Tie Dye Collection Summer 2015 – Dior Nail Lacquer in Sunkissed 239 with Tie Dye Top Coat Review & Swatches

I don’t even know how to dive into the amazingness of the newest makeup collection from Dior. With so many products and pieces, I thought I would start with wear my heart always lies – nail lacquer. This summer, Dior decided to have a little fun and take the spirit of tie dye, with its swirls and shifts of colour, to create a jelly grenadine-coloured top coat to give nails a taste of the tie dye effect. The Tie Dye Dior Nail Lacquer Collection is composed of Sunkissed ($27CDN/10mL)*, a rosy creme nude, Sunwashed*, a milky yellow and the piece de resistance, the Ombre Effect Top Coat ($28 CDN/10mL)*. The Tie Dye Top Coat can be used on bare nails to give them a healthy pink glow of ultra shiny colour, layered over polishes to give a certain je ne sais quoi OR…to create ACTUAL OMBRE NAILS like the name of the product says! I have yet to see anyone use the top coat in this manner! In the nail art community, creating a gradient with jelly polishes is also termed the “Syrup Manicure”. Read on to find out how to create it!

Gorgeous, right? I am wearing three coats as two coats was still a wee bit streaky in certain areas. I feel like this tends to happen with white, nude or yellow-based shades.

To create this tie dye-esque gradient, it can be either as messy or as neat as you want it to be. You start by painting just the tip of the nail with your Tie Dye Top Coat and letting it dry for a minute or two. Then, start painting a little bit higher, towards your cuticle, pulling the top coat over the tip of the nail. You will start to see that the colour intensity at the tip of the nail starts to darken.

Keep going until you hit the edge of your cuticle and you’re done! The final result almost looks like a thermal polish. I feel like THIS is how I would best enjoy the top coat because that translucent, yet shiny property is what makes it fun to experiment with. Think of the “jelly sandwiches” you could create! *Note* Don’t be like me and NOT seal the free edge of your nail. I didn’t do this and I got the dreaded top coat shrinkage.

I know many of you have seen the Tie Dye Collection all over social media and beauty blogs so what do you think you’ll spoil yourself with and pick up?
