New to Canada and available now at Shoppers Drug Mart locations across Canada, BVSpa is a curated luxury spa experience create by Bon Vital, a company in Ohio specializing in massage and aromatherapy products for the skin for almost 30 years. Though I have not heard of the brand, Shoppers tends to have a number of brands that are almost unsung heroes and over the years I have made some wonderful personal discoveries. The BVSpa collection includes everything you will need for a total at home spa treatment such as moisturizing body scrubs, lotions, butters all free of parabens, sulfates and phthlates. Did I mention that everything in the line is $11.99? That's right!
There are three scents available with each one specifically chosen for its aromatherapeutic benefits. Lavender and rosemary are scents that soothe and relax, pomegranate and acai berry rejuvenate skin and pink grapefruit re-energizes the senses. I know that I always need to spray my pillow with a lavender spray to help me go to bed so I can definitely attest to the benefits of aromatherapy!
I love reviewing bath and body products because showers are something that everyone has to have so a new scrub or a new body lotion is incredibly easy to add to my routine. Body scrubs are an absolute must for me or else I will start to break out on my arms and back so I exfoliate 4-5x a WEEK. My favourite scrub consistencies are thick and dense with exfoliant which is EXACTLY what the BVSpa Salt and Scrubs* are like!
The Salt Scrubs are made with Dead Sea salt, olive oil and jojoba oil and exfoliate the skin like nobody's business! After the crystals melt, the oils slowly make their way into the skin so you barely need to moisturize afterwards! My ONLY qualm with this scrub is that it is SO thick that you almost need both hands to squeeze out the product! There is NO WATER in this scrub which is probably why it is so thick as the very first ingredient is salt followed by oils and shea butter. I think this would have been better in tub form.
The Sugar Scrubs are made with smooth sugar crystals, safflower, jojoba and sunflower oil and are similar in density to the Salt Scrubs, but feels less thick and oily. This was easier to squeeze out of the tube with the sugar crumbling a bit more on the skin upon application. The scent of the Lavender and Rosemary wasn't quite what I was expecting as it was almost more floral than aromatherapeutic in scent, but because I enjoyed the consistency and how well it exfoliated, the scent will be excused!
The BVSpa Body Butter* is indeed hydrating. This is for the driest of skin as the consistency is quite thick, but absorbs nicely so that you aren't left waiting to put your clothes on. I received the scent Lavender & Rosemary which I found a bit strong. While the scent was "spa-like", the lavender and rosemary seemed lost in translation by the time it hit my senses so this particular scent is a no-go for me, but hopefully the other two scents will be better.
The final product I received was the BVSpa Body Lotion* in the scent Pink Grapefruit which had more of a milky consistency and is perfect for normal skin or skin in more humid climates. The scent was not overly citrusy and I loved the pump packaging!
Final verdict: Though the Lavender & Rosemary body butter scent wasn't a big hit with me, the salt and sugar scrubs were absolutely my favourite type of scrub! A little hard to squeeze out, but incredibly effective. Head to Shoppers and grab a few of the scents for you and mom to try out this Mother's Day!
