It is now officially summer and all of those summer collections from Spring can now be enjoyed in their entirety! The Summer Dior Milky Dots collection has been one of my favourite summer releases so far and after reviewing the Milky Tints (here) and two of the Manicure Kits (here), I am happy to finally have some time to put together a makeup look, swatches and review for the 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette in Bain de Mer* ($73.00CDN). There are two eyeshadow palettes in the Milky Dots collection, the second of which I will be showcasing next month. Bain de Mer looks like a mini rainbow and as pretty as it was in the package, how was I going to make this work for my Asian skintone?

I always swatch eyeshadows dry because I believe they should look decent dry and if applicable, SPECTACULAR when they are wet. The blue and the coral were the most pigmented followed by the metallic bronze and then the light green and gold. I will say that the gold applied much better with a brush. Once I added water, the shadows were much less powdery.

For this look, I went with emulating the Dior Milky Dots campaign using the bright blue and coral shades. Let's just say that I tried. It didn't turn out quite how I wanted, but overall I graded it "I would go to Sephora wearing this". If you're interested, read on to get the look!

Apply eye primer as we want the blue shade to really pop!
Push the lid of the palette down until you hear a *click* and add a few drops of water. We are going to apply these shadows wet for mega pigmented colour! (Did you know that ALL Dior 5 Couleurs Palettes can be applied wet or dry?)
Apply the coral shade of the Bain de Mer Palette* on the inner half of the eyelid including the inner corner.
Apply the bright blue shade to rest of eyelid, outer crease and up to the brow bone.   Blend the two shades with a fluffy brush.
Take a fineliner brush and carefully extend the blue around the coral shade by the inner corner of the eyelid. We want to try our best to keep these two shades distinct.
Replicate the coral and blue shades along the lower lash line.
Apply gold shade to browbone.

Final verdict: This limited edition is definitely not for everybody and I won't say that ignoring the blue, the other four shades are fairly versatile and great for everyday because that's not really true when you are spending almost $80 for this palette. This is for the Dior collector or the beauty lover that loves colour. I really did not think I could make this palette work for me, but blue can really be flattering!
