MAKEUP | Shu Uemura Murakami Holiday Collection Rouge Unlimited Review and Swatches

There honestly hasn't been a Shu Uemura collection I haven't liked, but it seems like each year, it just gets cuter and cuter. I love all things Japanese (anyone else listen to Kinki Kids, Speed and Glay in the 90s?), but Shu Uemura always manages to balance the "kawaii" so perfectly with luxury. This holiday season Shu Uemura has partnered with celebrated contemporary artist Takashi Murakami and his iconic Flowers. The inspiration for this collection comes from the wonderment of the night sky during the holiday season and how the cosmos would exist in daily life. This collection may look like a trippy set of hippie flowers, but there is actual philosophical depth! Shu Uemura turns the stars of the galaxy into blooming flowers of hope in celebration of cosmic beauty.

The new Rouge Unlimited Lipsticks ($36.00 CDN) come in three Sheer Shine shades: Pinky Bloom*, Rouge Bloom* and SRD 164* and two regular shades: OR 520* and WN 255* created to balance the lip with a multi-coloured eye. The Sheer Shine shades have the pink flowers on the packaging and the red flowers for the regular lipstick finish.

The Sheer Shines had more of a glide, but were more pigmented than I thought they would be. The applied very smoothly and definitely had a shine to them. SRD164 swatched much more intensely on my lips than on my arm!

The regular Rouge Unlimited finish is what I would consider a sheer lipstick finish, but is thicker in texture than their Sheer Shine cousin.

Final verdict: I didn't really find any of the shades all that flattering on me, but then again my hair was still on the blonde side. It is amazing how different makeup looks when you change your hair colour, so I am willing to give some of the shade a try with my oil slick hair. Though the Rouge Unlimited finishes were incredibly smooth and shiny, the wear time wasn't very long with 2-3 hours being my longest. Packaging is super cute though so if you are a Shu Uemura collector, I would grab one or two in shades you love.
