SKINCARE | MaskerAide Tell Me 'Pout It Hydrating Lip Mask

I actually had to look up when I first started using MaskerAide masks and it was in 2012?! Five years feels like a lifetime ago and I'm happy to say that I still actively use MaskerAide sheet masks with my favourite one being the All Nighter for its peppermint scent! Over the years, MaskerAide has expanded their love of masks to hydrogel patches for the eyes (love these for traveling!) and now the lips! The Tell Me 'Pout It Hydrating Lip Mask* is the answer to getting the perfect pout for that ultra daring pigmented matte lippie you have been dying to try or just giving your lips the boost they need without going under the needle!

The Tell Me 'Pout It* Lip Mask is sold in both singles ($7.00 CDN each) or in a box of 4 ($25.00 CDN). The mask has three main goals which are to smooth, prime and plump with just one 15-20 minute session. Lip care has become quite trendy now that we are all loving long-wearing lipsticks that put our lips through hell and back! Oddly enough, even seemingly sensible people (myself included) are more than happy to put in the work to ensure that beautiful mattes like the MUFE Artist Liquid Mattes apply seamlessly without settling into lip lines or accentuating any dry patches.

Featured ingredients are manuka honey and fermented rose for hydration, a smoothing and anti-aging berry complex made of acai, blueberry and blackberry and what sounds like an in-house concoction - BioBRIT-3. This is composed of lecithin, a naturally occurring lipid, that hydrates and replenishes skin's moisture levels due its high fatty acid content and DPHP which is a plant-derived collagen. Together, BioBRIT-3 plumps and firms the lips in a non-invasive way. What I was most curious about before trying the mask was HOW LONG the results would last.

As you can see from the photo, this is a hydrogel lip mask that is purposely oversized to ensure there is a tight seal on your lips and that not a single bit of lip is missed!

Firstly, make sure your lips are DRY, clean and free of chapstick or anything greasy. Believe me when I say that even the faintest bit of besswax-based chapstick will not lead to a good seal! Mine kept sliding to the side! To apply, take the lip mask out of the package and you will notice that one side is smooth. This is the side that goes on your lips. There is a faint physical outline denoting the center on the outside of the mask which I use as a guideline for application. Once on, make sure you get a good seal, by smoothing out all air bubbles.

There will be some slight stinging around the 2-5 minute mark after applying the mask which felt almost minty. Not being able to talk for 15 minutes proved to be more difficult than I had imagined so I'm glad that's really all the time it took! When I removed the mask, the area around my mouth was slightly red, but my lips looked more plump and felt soft, my lip lines were filled in and the surface felt less textured. Basically, the perfect canvas to apply a matte liquid lip!

Final verdict: Does this lip mask do what it claimed? Yes. Were the results long lasting? Depends what you were expecting. The only lasting plumping effect is really with a needle at the medispa, but my lips looked juicier for about an hour or two at most. My lip colour looked good and it was indeed easier to apply because the surface of my lips was so nice and smooth! Would I do this every day? Probably not, but if I were going out to an event and wanted to wear a crazy lip colour or take an amazingly lip-licious Instagram photo? You bet, I would bring one of these out and treat myself!
