BEAUTY TOOLS | The Brush Bar and Brush Board Review and Giveaway!

I hate cleaning my makeup brushes and I know I'm not alone in that. The thing is, once I get going, I love seeing the water go from cream/pink to clear and I love seeing my brushes go back to their creamy shade of white. Though I generally lay them flat to dry or leaning against a wall with the bristles encased in Brush Guards, the bristles usually need re-fluffing or they fall over. Enter a surprisingly useful set of beauty gadgets - the Brush Board and Brush Bar to stir things up in a good way!

The Brush Bar and Brush Board Review

What caught my eye first was the Brush Bar, but for the sake of going through the brush cleaning routine, let's start off with the Brush Board* ($28 USD)! This is a hard plastic that has 6 different textures (three on each side) to really get into and around brush bristles acting like a "brush exfoliator". To get started, all you need is to add some brush cleaner and water to the texture of your choice and then start your swirling!

As you can guess, each texture provides a different level of cleansing, but the folks at The Brush Bar recommend alternating between different textures for a deeper clear for each brush.

The cylinders provide the most gentle clean, while the pyramids and cones are a bit more intense as they act like little teeth to really get into the even the most dense of brushes.

The ridges and waves are both scrubbers and scrapers with the triangular shaped prism being more of a medium scrub for brushes that aren't quite so dense.

I've used a couple of different brush cleansing devices like the Brush Egg and the Sephora Solid Brush Cleaner and I have to say that having a hard surface really creates quite the lather! I also feel like one of those women from ye old days who did laundry using the washboard instead I'm doing it with brushes!

Now, that your brushes have been "laundered", it's time to dry them. The Brush Bar* ($38 USD) is matte and rubberized black on the outside. Inside you will see a number of little Y-shaped wires that will hold your brushes. There is also a heavy piece of metal along the hinge of the bar that weighs down the bar.

Pick up the bar, hold it downward and all of the little holders flip out. Don't be an idiot like me and do what I did by flipping them all out individually the first time...

The first two holders are for large brushes and the last two are for small brushes. All of the other holders will fit medium or really most of your makeup brushes. Close your Brush Bar and then perch it on the edge of your bathroom counter, sink or wherever your brushes will be able to dry in peace. Thanks to the weight of the metal along the hinge, the bar will not fall off unless pushed.

However, in my place, my brushes and Brush Bar have not been safe unless I shut the door to the bathroom or office because this happens...the fluffier brushes are the ones not safe from Hugobear.

Final verdict: Between the two, I love how sleek the Brush Bar looks and what little space it takes up! I also like that my brushes can dry in the ideal orientation, keeping liquid away from the ferrule and keeping my brushes in one piece! The Brush Board is awesome too, but for larger brushes like my blush brush, it was harder to move in circular motions so I switched to a washboard up and down which worked just fine. With our exchange the pricing can seem a bit high for both of these items, but would a coupon code help? :-)
