MAKEUP | MAKE UP FOR EVER Water Blend Face and Body Foundation ("You Took Some Time to Love, My Friend")

I never thought the day would come when I would have more than 50 foundations on the go. Then again, as I have gotten older I have started to lump foundation into skincare so just like I collect serums like potions in a video game raid, I hoard foundations for every mood and season. I have always had really good luck with MAKE UP FOR EVER foundations and most of their makeup in general, but when the Water Blend Face and Body Foundation* ($54.00 CDN) came out last year I wasn't quite as impressed as everyone else seemed to be. At least initially.

Contrary to most of MUFE's foundations, Water Blend is sheer, lightweight foundation with a "water-gel" texture. This foundation is all about looking like you with a dewy glow yet still having flawless coverage. Made with 80% water and pro-vitamin B5, this foundation is intended to be hydrating, long-lasting and quick to set. The high water content really does make this foundation dry faster so I tend to work in small sections in order to get the most even coverage.

I did have three shades, but something mysterious happened to one of them so now I just have two shades that I rotate between as Y225* is "winter Jayne" and Y305*, which is my current shade, is "summer Jayne". You can see that texture-wise, this foundation is indeed very watery. It also smells quite good (kind of like a bar of soap) and actually feels like you have water on your skin.

Below was my first attempt at using this foundation (Y225 shown) and I honestly found it so sheer that it felt like nothing. I couldn't really see a huge difference. My other complaint was about the packaging as I didn't like the fact that the cap on the bottle doesn't actually *click* meaning that I had to be careful about picking these bottles up by their bodies and not their caps.

I was disillusioned with this foundation and left it alone for a few months and then tried again. This time I wasn't really trying to make it work, but this time I used one of the MUFE primers, applied Water Blend with a sponge and then applied blush on top. My skin looked truly flawless! Perhaps it was the addition of a primer that made this foundation look better, but now it's totally working for me! Some MUAs have told me to try applying with a brush, but I really didn't like it as I much prefer the Beauty Blender for most foundations.

Final verdict: For me, using a primer was what made this foundation work so much better for me. I indeed got that flawless, yet incredibly natural finish that everyone was talking about and the foundation held up well for the day. It truly does feel weightless and honestly like nothing which is something I really like in my foundations. I have never been one for cakefacing and I spend so much time on my skin that I always want it to be the star of the show so if you are looking for a foundation that is more like "my skin, but better" look no further than MUFE's Water Blend!
