TEETH | Orally Fixated on My New Radius Source Toothbrush and Coconut Oil Toothpaste

When it comes to green beauty and oral hygiene, I am often torn because there are certain ingredients like fluoride that I really feel are necessary. Especially because the water in Vancouver does not have added fluoride in it, I do feel like it is necessary for me to get this mineral somewhere in my oral hygiene routine. Obviously too much fluoride is not great, but because I have weaker teeth, I feel very uncomfortable eliminating it completely from my routine. This doesn't mean I am not utterly fascinated by the green oral hygiene options out there because from what I have seen, there are many!

Through a recent blogger box, I finally got the chance to try green beauty oral hygiene brand Radius, which was founded on the Caribbean island of Tortola (NOT Tortuga, like in Pirates of the Caribbean!) and has an insane amazing commitment to reducing waste and being kind to the environment. I did not think I would be as impressed as I was with the products and was not planning on dedicating a whole post to the brand until I started to brush my teeth this magical toothbrush...

The Radius Source Toothbrush* is an odd, but amazing bird. Firstly, the shape brush head and handle seem weird at first, but then when I picked it up, I immediately noticed how comfortable the handle was! This handle is made of recycled wood, paper and money and though it seemed thick and cumbersome in the package, once it was in my hands I felt how ergonomic the grip was in my hands. This handle is also ambidextrous so lefties can enjoy it too!

The next thing I experienced was the larger brush head. I just had my dentist checkup and a comment the hygenist made was that my gums could use a bit of a massage as there was a bit of inflammation. Enter this fan-shaped replaceable brush head! Firstly, the bristles are vegetable-based and the slender neck invigorates gum tissue. Happy gums don't bleed or recede as much! Even before reading the packaging, I immediately noticed that my gums felt like they were being massaged because the bristles extend just outside of the tooth area. The angled tip felt like it was really able to reach into the tightest corners of my mouth so that everything felt very clean.

Ah, the toothpaste. The Radius Coconut Oil Toothpaste in the flavor Ginger Citrus* was an interesting one. The flavour was actually quite nice with the ginger being fairly refreshing, but what was different was the lack of lather or foam. I have only just gotten used to my shampoo not lathering, but it does feel a bit weird when your toothpaste doesn't do it!

This toothpaste is fluoride-free so I alternate it with Sensodyne to get my daily fluoride intake, but I like the inclusion of coconut oil as I still do the occasional oil-pull session. I know this isn't a toothpaste for everybody, but it was an interesting one to try and realize it was rather enjoyable!

Radius Toothbrush Toothpaste and Floss Review

When I saw these Cranberry Floss Sachets*, I thought they were the cutest thing I'd ever seen! In recent years, I have taken my flossing game VERY seriously because I started getting cavities between my teeth so now I floss every day. I always dread the activity (even though it only takes a minute or two), but I feel good once it's done. Kind of like working out. These portable floss sachets come with xylitol and cranberry essence coated floss. Xylitol is a plant-derived sweetener which prevent bacteria from sticking to the teeth while the cranberry essence contains antibacterial properties that prevent plaque from forming. You know how cranberry juice helps with UTIs by stopping E.coli from attaching to the bladder wall? Dr. H. Koo's team at the University of Rochester Medical Centre found that the same was true of cranberry in disabling the pathogens involved in dental caries or cavities.

I liked the portability of the floss, the cute little way they tear open and the fact that everything about them is 100% biodegradable, but I do have one gripe. I have tight gaps between my teeth and in certain spots I feel like the floss is tearing because the Candelilla plant wax just isn't enough glide for me. I still keep them in my purse just in case I eat something real stubborn!

I always love discovering new products in oral care whether they be green or not, but I will say that the Radius Toothbrush has been awesome and the fact that I can just replace the heads and keep the handles makes me love them even more!
