SKINCARE | Puriface EMP Collagen Boost Sheet Mask

The FULL name of this weekend's sheet mask is the Puriface Eggshell Membrane Pack Collagen Boost Sheet Mask*. For some reason, I love eggs, but whenever I see it in skincare I get kind of weirded out! Eggs are pretty good for you and we have seen them applied to hair and skin with positive results so why not mask with it? I first saw Puriface on Instagram as I often get recommended skincare accounts because of my addiction to all things skin *double tap* and filed the brand away in my memory banks to try once I finished my hundreds of sheet masks. I honestly could do one every day for the next 2-3 years NO PROBLEM so why the F would I buy more?

Puriface ended up reaching out (they probably felt the Force awaken with my skincare vibes) and I agreed to try out one of the two sheet masks they currently offer. Puriface is an American-Korean company with a goal of creating straightforward skincare for the on-the-go beauty lover. The sheet masks are also made in Seoul, Korea so you know they are legit!

I try to do a sheet mask on days I don't wash my hair since I don't have to spend 15 minutes blow-drying it. If I have a bath, I will wear the mask in the tub! The goal of most sheet masks is hydration with a side of brightening and/or lifting and after my 36 hour stint in Vegas, my skin has been super dry and flaky. I really noticed it when I came back and my favourite foundation was not sitting well around my nose and cheeks.

The EMP Collagen Boost Sheet Mask contains hydrolyzed eggshell membrane (that clear film lining your eggs) that is high in glycosaminoglycans and collagen and has had positive results in orally  treating connective tissue disorders (Russ et al, June 2018). When it comes to topical applications of eggshell membrane, there was a study published by some Korean scientists measuring moisture retention, anti-inflammatory and anti-wrinkle effects on the forearm (Yoo et al, June 2018) which was actually quite interesting to read! Suffice it to say that eggshell membrane has been an ingredient with noticeably positive effects!

When it comes to essence ingredients, I usually find the key ingredients buried towards the end of the list, but you can see that eggshell membrane is ingredient number four (yay!). For those of you who watched my IG stories last night when I wore this mask, I noted that the scent of the essence was quite nice and smelled refreshing and a little like ginger. The cotton mask itself felt very plump and soft with essence and though the shape of the mask was the right size, the size of the eye and mouth openings were a bit small which made me look extra scary. However, I did appreciate the closer fit due to the extra slits cut into the sides and edges of the mask that allowed me to "bend" the cotton around the contours of my face.

Final verdict: This mask is a bit sticky once the mask is removed and essence massaged in. It wasn't until the 2 hour mark that the tackiness began to subside. My skin was very hydrated with the dry patches around my nose and chin being gone even without the addition of moisturizer. This is definitely a no-fuss sheet mask that just does what it says it will without any hoopla or "skintertainment". This is also the only eggshell membrane mask I have and while it was incredibly hydrating, it's hard for me to say whether it was any MORE hydrating than other sheet masks I have used previously. It DOES work and is a great price for featuring an ingredient known to be topically good for the skin!
