SHEET MASK | Kumamon Sheet Mask

Kumamon Sheet Mask
This was a gift from a friend

I had a really rough week, specifically a rough Thursday and Friday at work and ended up driving home with tears running past my sunglasses early Friday morning. I slept for most of the afternoon in the hopes that I would have the strength to survive a busy Saturday and I ended up having a really horrible day. A very minor conflict has had me WAY more bothered than it should which I know is not a normal way for my brain to function so I am in the midst of trying to figure out how to handle this as I feel like internally something is not right with my body.

It seems strange going from that last sentence to one about sheet masks, but part of what I am going to try to do is take my mental health seriously and WORK to first get it better and then to maintain it. I have spoken to a few close friends about what has been happening in my life and many said to really ENJOY my sheet masks. It's true that out of the many obsessions I have had over the years, the sheet masks have been a consistent source of relief especially when they are printed like this Kumamon sheet mask.

Kumamon Sheet Mask

What makes this mask special? "Kumamon" is a mascot who was created in 2010 by the government of the Kumamoto Prefecture in Japan in order to bring tourists into the area after the Kyushu Shinkansen (bullet train) opened. In the last 20 years, Kumamon has become extremely popular and has actually generated tens of millions in revenue!

This mask is printed so obviously this is the main draw, but it also has lavender oil, allantoin, hot spring water, hyaluronic acid and the sometimes controversial ingredients horse oil and horse placenta extract both of which are sometimes used in Asian skincare to promote skin barrier strength and minimize wrinkles. I do not actively look for these ingredients as I still find the horse stuff a bit strange.

As expected, the fit of this mask was pretty terrible and I don't think I look quite as cute as the Kumamon mascot we have all come to know and love. Still, it's all about the entertainment factor and this sheet mask certainly delivered when it came to that area!

Mask Summary:

Price: I am not too sure as this was a gift.

What it does: Hydrates, strengthens skin barrier and relaxes with aromatherapy

Scent: Lemony

Essence Type: Clear, watery

Duration: 30 minutes

Thickness: Thick because this is a printed mask so not surprised.

Mask Fit: Oh, it was pretty awful, but very characteristic of printed masks especially since the design covers so much area.

Tackiness: Medium, but not uncomfortably so

Hydration: Quite nice, but I felt like being extra and applied a little bit of the Kiehl's overnight mask just because I wanted a lavender scent.

Other notes: N/A

Final verdict: As a mask for regular use? No and actually, I feel like now that I have tried this out once, I didn't really love the experience enough to want to wear it again. This was all about that Kumamon selfie for myself and to share with all of you!

I am pretty sure you will have to get this mask from Japan as I have no idea where my husband's friend picked this up from! I want to say it was at one of those tourist places, but I really don't know!
