July Empties!

I have to say that I am quite proud of this month’s batch of empties because I managed to finish some full-sized products that I have had for far too long!

july_luvs

1. Goldwell Rich Repair Shampoo and Conditioner Samples

Nothing special as it didn’t make a huge difference in how my hair felt. I also was not a fan of the scent. Will not purchase.

2. L’Occitane Volumizing Shampoo and Conditioner Samples

Smells divine, but again I didn’t feel like it made a huge difference to my hair. I’d probably purchase the full size just to see if using it for a longer time would allow me to see more of a difference.

3. L’Occitane Repairing Shampoo Sample

Smells just as good as the Volumizing Shampoo and I might repurchase again to see if I experience more of a difference with longer use.

4. Dove Invigorating Dry Shampoo

I LOVE this stuff, but this is a premature empty as I only got this a week ago and only got a chance to use it twice before it started leaking…all I know is that when I picked up the can a couple of days later, it was virtually empty and wouldn’t spray at all! I’ve written to Dove and they were nice enough to give me a coupon for another bottle. This is an aerosol dry shampoo that was great for my dark hair as it didn’t leave a coloured residue.

5. Bath and Body Works Japanese Cherry Blossom Body Lotion

I have had this for probably 4 years?? I loved it at first, but then the scent just got too strong and overwhelming for me and I stopped using it. I won’t repurchase this scent again (is it even still available?)

6. Cake Milk Made Velveteen Hand Creme

I think I’ve had this particular tube for about 2 years and the scent and consistency remained just as nice as when I first got it. I know a lot of you are fans of Cake products and this hand creme is probably one of their bestsellers. As for whether I’d repurchase? There is already a fresh tube by my nightstand!

7. The Body Shop Camomile Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover

Very gentle and is very much like using a cold cream on your eyes. Will repurchase!

8. Ola Tropical Organics Coconut Lemongrass Creme Lotion Sample

This was one of my June Luvs and now it’s all gone! I would love to repurchase, but the shipping is crazy expensive.

9. The Body Shop Cranberry Joy Body Scrub

If you are familiar with TBS Christmas lines, you’ll know approximately how long I’ve had this! I actually really liked it as it exfoliated quite well, but was gentle enough to be used everyday. The only thing is that this scrub contains little berry seeds and in the shower it looks like there are little bugs all over your skin…but other than that, it’s great! I would totally repurchase this!

10. Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunscreen SPF 55 Sample

Received a sample of this in June’s Glossybox and I have already repurchased this in the full size!

11. Clarins Daily Energizer Lotion SPF 15 Sample

I loved the fact that this was a lighter moisturizer that had SPF in it, but I found that my skin was kind of sticky after which I didn’t really like. I won’t be purchasing in the full size, but I’m glad I got a chance to try it.

12. Clarins Pure Melt Cleansing Gel Sample

I love using this to remove my makeup and I now have the full size! It’s great for dry skin like mine and I think the texture is fun Smile

13. Orlane First Time Fighting Care Eye Contour Sample

I received this in May’s Topbox and I found it be a little heavy for my eye area as I prefer an eye cream that is lighter. Unfortunately, I will not be getting this in the full size.

14. Soap that Make Scents Coconut Mango Body Lotion Sample

Can you believe I just opened this today and now it’s done? I received this in one of my Divalicious boxes and there was enough to cover one leg and part of my arm. Smelled quite nice and had a nice gel-like consistency which I like for summer. I would get the full size even though the sample wasn’t even large enough for one use.

15. Lancome Cils Booster XL Sample

I received this in a Lancome GWP awhile back and I honestly didn’t think it made that much difference to how mascara looked on my eyes. Would not purchase the full size.

16. Burt’s Bees Honey Lip Balm

I prefer the peppermint version much more! I will not repurchase in this scent.

17. AG Hair Cosmetics Argan Flat Iron Spray

This was a May Luv of mine that I miss already as I haven’t had the chance to get the full size yet, but if you straighten your hair a lot, this leaves your hair feeling so smooth and straight. Will definitely repurchase!

18. Yes to Cucumbers Facial Towelettes Travel Size

I just mentioned this as a July Luv and I have another pack ready to go! These are so refreshing, smell great and are soft on the face. Will continue to repurchase!

19. Fekkai Color Care Moisture Mask Sample

I received this in my April Luxe Box. Smelled nice, but didn’t work any better than the current hair mask I have been using, so I don’t think I will be purchasing the full size.

20. L’Occitane Angelica Exfoliating Gel Sample

This new line has been growing on me as I found the scent to be quite natural and refreshing. The gel itself was gently gritty and I would get the full size for sure!

21. Mario Badescu Hyaluronic Eye Cream Sample

I received this as part of a sample pack and I did not like it…it was too greasy for me and made the skin around my eyes get little white bumps…I think this is just me though because the bumps went away almost 24 hours after I stopped using this eye cream. I’m sure it works for other people, but it just didn’t for me. Will not repurchase.

22. Julep The Best Pedi Creme Ever! Sample

Smells great and leaves my feel feeling soft! I have a full size of this already and I love it! Will purchase once my current supply runs out.

23. La Fresh Acetone-Free Nail Polish Remover Pad

I received this in my This smelled just like oranges which I loved, but as for whether it was able to remove nail polish from all TEN fingers? Sure, I guess one pad can indeed do that, but by the seventh finger, you have to work quite hard to remove the polish and the remover pad is also hard to use because it’s so thin! I did like it and I would purchase a full pack of them…with my Glymm points.

24. Free Your Mane Shampoo and Conditioner Samples

I was pleasantly surprised that I liked this! Pleasant smell and left my hair feeling soft and smooth. I don’t know if I would purchase the full size because it seems a bit expensive and not easy to get. For some reason, the thought of ordering shampoo online instead of just picking it up locally seems like too much trouble…

25. L’Occitane Amande (Almond) Exfoliating and Stimulating Soap

LOVE LOVE LOVE! I love the whole Amande line and this soap was no exception! Will definitely buy again!

26. Everyday Minerals Semi Matte Foundation Base in Golden Medium Sample

For a mineral foundation, I found this to have fantastic coverage without making my face look cakey. I normally use Pur Minerals 4 in 1 foundation, but the Everyday Minerals foundation feels just as invisible on my skin, but gave me more coverage. I have already placed an order for the full size.

And that’s another round of empties! I have thoroughly enjoyed writing this as well as reading everyone else’s empties! It feels like the reverse of Christmas!

London 2012 Olympic Nails!

I didn’t think I would be attempting Olympic-themed nails, but Olympic fever got the best of me and I decided to try. I have to admit that I had no idea what to do really because I’m not very good at “art”. I’m good with lines, but I wasn’t about to attempt the mascots or drawing my favourite sporting events! I kept it simple and gave the Canadian flag a heart instead of a maple leaf which I find brutally hard to draw even with pen and paper with of course a coat of Julep’s Oh Canada! on top!

olympic_nails

I’ve been watching swimming because CTV plays it constantly, but I love gymnastics and weight-lifting too. At one point, I was streaming four different events! What has everyone else been watching?

July Luvs

Summer has finally made its way over to BC and there have definitely been certain products that I have been constantly reaching for that either protect, refresh or just make getting ready quick and easy.

DSCF4264

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunscreen SPF 30

After receiving a sample of this in my June Glossybox and finishing it in two uses, I knew I had found a sunscreen I liked. I like my sunscreens to be unscented so this was the number one thing I liked about the Neutrogena’s version and I didn’t feel like I was wearing sunscreen. It wasn’t sticky and felt like a thicker moisturizer. I picked it up in a lower SPF because I’m never out in the sun for very long.

Smith Farms Marshmallow Face Cream

How could I not mention this as one of my favourites for the month?! I won’t delve into this face cream too much as I’ve already done a fairly extensive review on it, but if you are looking for a truly all-natural face cream, this is a fantastic one to try! It’s great for all skin-types and thanks to mallow root, leaves your skin feeling softer.

Yes to Cucumber Soothing Facial Towelettes

I picked these up on a Shoppers Drug Mart run last month because I had always been curious about the entire “Yes To…” line, but wasn’t ready to dive into their skin care just yet. These facial wipes have been so refreshing to use as the weather has warmed up, especially when stored in the fridge! These facial wipes contain cucumber extract, aloe and sea salt and smell as good as they feel on the skin. I should add that there will be a slight burning sensation due to the sea salt. This is also a paraben-free product.

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15 in Rose

I received this full-sized version as a birthday present from a co-worker before picking up my birthday gift from Sephora and fell in love with first how delicious this smelled and then how moisturizing it was! This has been great for summer because it has SPF 15 and gives your lips a light and natural-looking tint. Along with Fresh perfumes, I can now add these lip treatments to the list! I have a feeling I will have all six tints in my possession by the end of 2012!

OPI Nail Envy

I have been on the hunt for a new base coat with a nail strengthener in it and Nail Envy has been quite good. None of my nails have been splitting this month which is an improvement staining hasn’t been as much of an issue when using darker nail polishes. I’m sure there are tons of good base coats out there, but this is the first one that I’ve tried in my search and it has worked well for me.

DSCF4254

Urban Decan Naked Palette

I have been a little hesitant in mentioning the Naked palette as a favourite because we have all heard and read so much about this God-given Urban Decay product! I purchased the first edition when it first came out a few years ago and have never looked back. This is a fantastic palette of neutrals and I find myself using “Sin”, “Half Baked”, “Smog” and “Toasted” the most. Whenever I just want a quick and healthy bronzed look, those are the four eye shadows I use. This palette and probably the Naked 2 should be in every girl’s makeup collection!

Wow, and that’s another month of favourite products for July!

Tu Blog Me Inspira and Por Tu Naturalidad Awards

Traci from drinkcitra has recently awarded me with two lovely blog awards for which I say thank you and that I am honoured that she thought of me. She has a wonderful blog filled with nail swatches and art and has a such a sweet and friendly personality that you are able to sense just through her thoughtful comments and I am happy to have her as a blogger friend!

What makes me start reading a blog initially are good photography, an easy to read font and a layout that isn’t too busy. I also love bloggers that reply to comments and interact with their audience. You really feel like you’re really part of a community and that you truly are among friends.

Now, for everyone’s favourite part, the chosen bloggers! Winking smile I know sometimes tags can be hard to do so don’t feel pressured to do it if you don’t want to participate.

Nail Mail–OMG It’s the Rainbow Honey Equestria Collection!

I swear, it’s like I just cannot resist these indie polishes that keep coming out! Especially ones that are inspired by My Little Pony! If you haven’t heard of Rainbow Honey, they are another great indie polish company with some crazy awesome polishes and equally impressive packaging. I picked up the minis of the Equestria Collection ($35) because I thought 7mL/bottle was more than enough for me to get a couple of manicures! Rainbow Honey also has the Chrono Cross and Sakura Matsuri Collections that, according to their website, will be available later this summer.

Even the boxes are so cute! DSCF4222

DSCF4223

Shown here: A Little Kindness, Hoof Wrassle, The Worst Possible Thing and Pinkie PromiseDSCF4226

Shown here: Mare of the Moon, The Element of Magic, Celestia and 20% CoolerDSCF4225

These guys just take my breath away! I’m going to try oh so hard to get some swatches up, but I don’t like doing marathon swatch sessions and I applaud those bloggers that do! I like enjoying each polish for a few days, but any requests on which Rainbow Honeys you’d like to see first? My vote is for “Mare of the Moon”!

Holla for Holos! Glitter Gal–Copper 3D

I figure I'd better wear all of my holos now while there is sunshine because Vancouver will be plunged in darkness and rain from September till June :( Some of you may remember my Glitter Gal Haul and only now am I getting a chance to wear more of them! I even timed this swatch by checking The Weather Network to make sure there would be sunshine for proper photos! This is Glitter Gal – Copper 3D in three thin coats and OTD topcoat. I could have done two thick coats, but thinner coats are always better for drying time. The formula is a dream to work with, just like their Silver 3D and applied very evenly on the nail.

I love Copper 3D in sunshine! Isn’t she gorgeous?! Also, we’ve got just under a week to enter my Birthday and Julep giveaways so enter on the sidebar if you haven’t already!

Review–NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams

I’m a gloss girl. Even if I wear lipstick I have to finish with a coat of glossy goodness or I feel naked, but then I saw these NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams and I thought just maybe this might be the product that combines two of my favourite qualities in a lip product.

It's not a lipstick, nor is it a gloss, it's like nothing you've ever experienced before! It's lipstick cream that goes on silky but looks soft matte. These long lasting lip creams come in 11 colours that will be sure to keep you lips moisturized and colourful.

DSCF4234

DSCF4235

Packaging: These lip creams come in the traditional lip gloss tube with a doe-foot applicator. I guess to match the finish of the lip cream, the caps are matte as well!

Scent: Creamy vanilla. It reminds me a lot of my favourite Tassimo Gevalia Vanilla Latte. Mmmm…

Formula: You can see from the swatches that these lip creams are incredibly pigmented! They glide on beautifully and really do feel creamy on the lips. Due to the nature of the matte appearance, any cracks in your lips will be accentuated so I would probably use a lip scrub (I love using any of the Lush ones) prior to application to give the lip creams a smooth surface to sit on. The wear time was not particularly long-lasting on me. Once I started eating and drinking, the colour just started fading fast. I have heard other bloggers say otherwise though.

Final Verdict: I don’t reach for these everyday, but I’m glad I have them in my makeup inventory because I love how I can have a bright pop of colour on my lips, but have it be more subtle because of how matte the finish is. The only thing that I found a bit strange was that when the colour started fading, it left a definitive ring of colour around the edges of my lips as if I didn’t blend my lip liner correctly…Abu Dhabi wasn’t quite as bad because it’s a nude, but the other two gave me quite an obvious “lip ring”. Even with this little quirk, I still think these matte lip creams are worth trying because the feel and finish is so unique and something I have never experienced before in a lip product. The finish on the lips is beautifully matte yet still moisturizing.

What do you guys think? Has anyone tried them yet and experienced what I have?

July 2012 Glymm Bag

Can you believe I almost forgot to blog about this month’s Glymm Bag? Is it that the novelty of samples is wearing off? Or maybe it has just been awhile since I’ve been wowed by Glymm…I feel so sad saying that because when I look back at my first posts about Glymm, I was always so excited to open them up, eat those yummy jellybeans and devour the product card. Now, it’s just not like that anymore…anyway, for this month there are some interesting products for sure. Shall we see what they might be?

I actually do like the colour of this month’s Glymm Bag, it’s the Pantone colour of the year right?

DSCF4241

Cyberderm H2O Hydration and PM Anti-Age

DSCF4245

This moisturizer will show your skin a good time. With more benefits than you can count, you can be sure to see some drastic results.

Take a bold stance against physiological aggressors that age us with this powerful cream.

Thoughts: I’ll give this sample a thumbs up for innovative and interesting sample packaging! From Glymm’s info card, it looks like if you buy the full size product it comes in a pump bottle as opposed to a syringe. It was a little confusing to see that on the box, Cyberderm called themselves “the sunscreen company” making me think that we were getting samples of sunscreen…then it says “oral use only” on the label…what??

Full size: H2O Hydration – 50mL/$60.00 and PM Anti-Age – 50mL/$115.00

I received: H2O Hydration – 5mL/$6.00 and PM Anti-Age – 5mL/$11.50. 5 uses each.

Joico K-Pak Revitaluxe

DSCF4246

This luxury hair treatment is clinically proven to instantly correct damage and protect against future damage.

Thoughts: This is a really good sample size, more like travel-sized and promises stronger, softer and more moisturized hair. I use hair masks about once a week so I’m excited to try this out. The only thing I don’t like about this product is the smell…it’s quite strong…

Full size: 150mL/$25.00

I received: 50mL/$8.33. 3 uses.

Dirt Salt Scrub

DSCF4247

Dirt never sounded so delicious. This delectable body treatment will exfoliate and reveal a glow that you never knew you had.

Thoughts: This smells really good! This scrub is scented with fresh cucumber, sun-warmed fig and pear. I adore scrubs and I use them on my face almost daily so I can’t wait to try this out!

Full size: 12oz/$45.00

I received: 0.05oz/$0.19. 2 uses.

Mane Teeze Social Butterfly Hair Perfume

DSCF4248

Summer is a busy time for pretty socialites like you, so bring this hair perfume along with you when you need that little boost of luxury.

Thoughts: This sample is vanilla-scented and quite strong in scent! I really don’t know how often I will use this seeing as how the smell reminds me of going clubbing as a 20-year-old. If you go the Mane Teeze website, you’ll know what I mean! It looks like us Glymmers will be getting a taste of Mane Teeze’s other hair perfume scents over the next two months so hopefully the other scents will appeal more to me.

Full size: 50mL/$34.00

I received: 8mL/$5.44. 50 sprays.

DSCF4240

Total Value of Glymm Bag: approximately $31.46

Some interesting things in this month’s Glymm Bag, but nothing I was incredibly excited to use. I was a little bummed that I couldn’t use the nail polish coupon with my loyalty points…I guess that would be too good to be true right?

The Hungry Asian–Belle

In my latest nail mail from The Hungry Asian I picked up one of Kae’s newest creations called “Belle”. Belle is described as a “small pink hex glitter and medium brown hex glitter in a sheer milky base”. I don’t normally like having white nails, but when I saw this polish with it’s pink and brown glitter, I knew I had to have it. As the description states, Belle is on the sheer side, so I used two coats of Sally Hansen XTreme Wear – White On and two coats of Belle to achieve the look below. I love how softly feminine this polish is and I am proud to add it to my collection!

My Go-To Bronzing Products for Summer!

DSCF4218

1. Lise Watier Sun Smart Tinted Universal UV Shield SPF 30

This is chemical sunscreen free (making this a physical sunscreen and is great for those with sensitive skin) as well as oil and paraben-free. This is a cream that can be used alone or on top of moisturizer to give your face a slightly tinted natural-looking glow. It feels similar to makeup primer in that it gives your skin a velvety smooth surface and is non-greasy while providing UV protection. On my days off when I just want to step out and go for a walk, I really don’t like wearing a lot of makeup so this has been a great way to give my face some colour, even out my skin tone a little and protect me from UV rays. As far as I know, there is only one shade. The other Lise Watier Sun Smart UV Shield is untinted.

DSCF4220

I know, it looks so scary and dark right about here! Just keep blending and blending!!

DSCF4221

Here it is fully blended all over my hand. See, it’s not so bad!

DSCF4223

2. Pur Minerals Pur Rocks

DSCF4225

I have had this same box of Pur Rocks for probably three years now? There were significantly more rocks when I first got this, but I’ve lost quite a few through over-zealous blush swirling! These Pur Rocks are an assortment of different shades of browns and dark pinks and is one of those blush/bronzer type products that give more of bronzed glow as opposed to the pink of a blush. When I’m a bit more tanned, I often use this in place of a blush as it suits my skin tone much more.

3. Benefit Bronzing Powder in Hoola

DSCF4227

DSCF4226

DSCF4228

I’m sure I don’t need to go into much explanation for this Benefit favourite! I picked this up because I wanted a way to look tanned without any shimmer involved. This has also been a great bronzer for contouring my face. Hoola applies evenly and is very blendable.

4. theBalm Betty –Lou Manizer

DSCF3916

DSCF4006

DSCF4007

I had originally picked this up before Hoola for contouring and highlighting purposes, but I found it to be too shimmery. Instead, I’ve been using it on my cheeks and as an eye shadow which gives me the perfect bronzed goddess look! I think I might also have to pick Mary Lou-Manizer for my highlighting purposes!

5. The Body Shop Brilliance Powder in Shimmer Bronze

DSCF4230

DSCF4232

I picked this up last summer from The Body Shop. It’s your classic all-over shimmer powder that’s great for the face and body. I always have to remember not to use the brush in the same areas over and over again because the sparkles can reach critical levels!

Any other products that I should add to my bronzing must-haves for summer?

Topbox July 2012

I received July’s Topbox at the beginning of the week which came with four products, one of which was personalized based on a survey from last month.

In July’s Topbox we have:

Pure + Simple Calming Cucumber Mask

DSCF4194

A refreshing all-natural skin calmer! Soothe your skin and invigorate your sense with this freshly scented gel mask. Potent all-natural ingredients such as vegetal collagen, cucumber extract and Indian senna seed extract relieve irritation and redness while cooling and firming the skin.

Thoughts: I’ve never heard of Pure + Simple before which isn’t surprising considering they are a spa company located in Toronto. I’ve been using a lot of masks lately so I am very much looking forward to trying this product. This mask is heavily cucumber-scented so if you are not a fan of cucumbers, this might bother you. Luckily, I am a fan so I quite enjoy the scent.

Full size: 50mL/$25.25

I received: 20mL/$10.10

Sampar Essentials Ultra Hydrating Fluid

DSCF4193

A moisturizing fluid for all ages and skin types with long-lasting hydration and antioxidant protection. Provides long-term hydration (white lupin protein) and protects the skin from harmful effects of pollution (urban advance complex).

Thoughts: This looks to be a moisturizer for the “modern city dweller” that uses some pretty exotic-sounding ingredients to give radiant and beautiful skin. I’m not sure about this product…it sounds like it will be a glorified moisturizer to me, but I am grateful to Topbox for providing us with two samples to try.

Full size: 50mL/$80

I received: 4mL/$6.40

NuMe Style Hydro Punch Invigorating Shampoo

DSCF4197

An incredible blend of Morocco’s finest argan oil, this shampoo unravels years of dullness, damage, split ends, chemical damage and much more.

Thoughts: I had to laugh when I saw this because now the matching conditioner that I received in May’s 2012 Glymm Bag now has a friend! We also received a $100 gift certificate to use towards NuMe styling tools, but unfortunately for me this will be going straight into the recycling…

Full size: 250mL/$24.99

I received: 20mL/$2.00

China Glaze Nail Lacquer in Blue Sparrow (Neon)

DSCF4196

Our unique lacquers contain china clay as a nail hardener, the same material that gives porcelain its shiny finish. These glossy lacquers work in perfect cohesion with out professional nail treatments for lasting strength, durability and overall gorgeous nails.

Thoughts: This is my favourite item in the Topbox except for one thing…I already have this colour!! I got this colour last year and used it in my Birks Blue Box manicure on my accent nail. Anyone want to swap?

Full size: The info card says $10-$12, but I get mine at Chatters for $6.99…

I received: *FULL SIZE*

DSCF4191

This was a fairly good Topbox that I think I would have loved more if I had received a nail polish colour that I didn’t own, but that’s my own fault for being such a polish whore! China Glaze is a fantastic company with some amazing nail polishes and I’m glad they were included in this month’s box. If anyone wants to trade nail polish colours, let me know!

Cosmetic Love Haul!

Yes, I know it’s another haul post, but I am so incredibly excited to share with you this awesome site for Asian makeup products that was recommended to me by a friend of mine . Cosmetic Love is from South Korea and has some of the best pricing I’ve seen for Asian BB creams and quite a selection of well-known Asian makeup brands like Etude House, Missha, Skinfood, Lioele LaNeige and Skin79. Two of my favourite brands are Skinfood and Etude House because of their ultra cute packaging and product quality. There is FREE WORLDWIDE SHIPPING and it only took 9 business days from when I placed my order to when it was in my hands! Cosmetic Love was also VERY generous when it came to samples as you will see below!

The first thing I ordered were the most adorable looking hand creams I have ever seen! These cute little guys ($9.49) are from Etude House and even have their own back stories because they are part of the “endangered animals” series. I purchased the Harp Seal (smells like green tea) and the Fairy Penguin (smells like baby powder). The packaging may not be the most user friendly, but I’m willing to overlook that for the sake of Asian packaging cuteness.

DSCF4113

DSCF4114

DSCF4115

DSCF4116

Next, I purchased two BB Creams that I have been dying to try: Skinfood Good Afternoon Rose Lemon Tea BB Cream ($7.58 each) and the identical product in Honey Black Tea in the colour Natural Beige. There were only two shades to choose from, the other being Light Beige so I had my fingers crossed that Natural Beige would be a match. They both have SPF 20 in them and also smell just like their descriptions!

DSCF4118

To be honest, I actually forgot what this product was because the writing was in Korean! This is the Etude House SHINI STAR Clear Pact #2 in Lavender ($12.61). This is a pressed powder that “subdues facial oil to promote soft, luminous skin”. This also comes in a Peach shade and can be used right after applying BB Cream or foundation. It comes in a cute, blue compact that is sure to bring out the girl in every woman SmileDSCF4119

DSCF4120

DSCF4121

Holy samples! I didn’t expect this many!

DSCF4122

After such a wonderful experience with Cosmetic Love, I will most certainly be shopping with them again! Has anyone else shopped with them?
