shu uemura | pret-a-palette in Pink Hues Review, Swatches and Makeup Look

When it comes to eyes, shu uemura is the first company that comes into my mind as their famous eyelash curler is now a holy grail product for all eye types. The shu uemura summer collection is nothing short of colour, fun and play all done in the ever-luxurious shu manner and consists of: drawing pencils in 21 shades, 4 ready-to-wear palettes and petal lash mascara. Today’s blog post will feature the pret-a-palette in Pink Hues ($85 CDN) which literally translates into “ready-to-palette” and is one of four six coloured palettes.

Lise Watier | Eden Tropical Coral Paradise Nail Lacquer and Geometric Nail Art

I love summer nail polish colours. Every colour is so unforgivingly intense and bright and I feel like even if you’re in a bad mood, having brights on your nails is the perfect antidote to the blues. Right out of Lise Watier’s Eden Tropical Collection, Coral Paradise Nail Lacquer is the prime example of a happy, bright polish with its peach creaminess. To add a little bit of flair to Coral Paradise, I added some striping tape and individually painted the sections with black and gold polish. I peeled off the tape and got this tribal-looking manicure!

Essence Cosmetics | Fame Fatal Nail Polish and Polka Dot Nail Art

Essence Cosmetics just keeps getting better for me. I am LOVING Fame Fatal which is a dead, sexy red that is so shiny and delicious that there is no way anyone can say no to this colour! The combination of black and red is one of my favourites so I added some black dots in Essence – Black is Back with a dotting tool.

MAKE UP FOR EVER | Aqua Matic Waterproof Glide-On Eye Shadow in I-22 with Swatches and Makeup Look

When it comes to the term “waterproof” in makeup, I only think of the MUFE Aqua line. I kid you not, I have been using MUFE’s Aqua Shadow in 20E every freakin’ day for the last 4 weeks because I don’t even need primer to have it last 10 hours in summer heat. The only thing about the Aqua Shadow line that was missing were some FUN summer colours making the Make Up For Ever Aqua Matic ($25.00) eye shadow pencils the missing link. Available in 10 shades ranging from neutral to adventurous, these pencils will let your inner artist run wild – even underwater!

Topbox | June 2014

I think there was a Prive box last month, but it went to my spam and I never saw it which was a little sad. I didn’t get a bad Topbox, but I was only really interested in 50% of what I received which was unfortunate. Topbox can be really hit/miss and when I look back at some of the boxes I have received there is really quite a mix. I feel like out of the beauty subs I have, it is the most “bipolar”. I am actually hesitant to give this box up because I know there is a waitlist for it and because the actual brand names included are usually quite good. Umm, hello Benefit?!

Almay Picnic Before and After Make Up Look and Giveaway Worth $115! *Warning–Very Picture Heavy!

A few weeks ago, I was fortunate enough to attend the Almay “Practice Makes Perfect” Picnic event on a very rainy Vancouver evening. There was food, drinks and the cutest lunch bags filled with everything you see below! The first thing Jacquie Hutchison, National Product Trainer for Revlon and Almay, had us do was to *shudder* remove all of our makeup and start with a bare face! From here we were led through a well-thought out tutorial on how to apply a full face of makeup perfectly. Based on my before and after shots, you’ll see if I learned anything!

Sally Hansen | Don’t Be Leotardy Swatches with Nail Art

Today I have another polish from Sally Hansen’s Pastels on Point Collection called “Don’t Be Leotardy” which is a beautifully opaque and glossy mauve-pink that isn’t normally a colour I would wear, but it’s what I would consider a “woman’s colour”. I love how I’m 31 and I still think of myself as a child. Enjoy these two coats of mauvey pinkness as well as some bonus nail art!

Lush | Celestial Facial Moisturizer

“Celestial” is the perfect name for this Lush facial moisturizer because it smells and feels just heavenly. I know it’s just so cheesy to say, but it is so true. Celestial ($24.95 CDN) is Lush’s most gentle face moisturizer as it starts with a cocoa butter base blended with vanilla water for retaining moisture, hydrating almond milk and fresh dove orchid extract to keep sensitive skin soft and irritation-free. The scent of vanilla and almond milk is subtle and not overpowering which is again perfect for sensitive skin as fragrance can be an irritant.

Petit Vour | April 2014 “Boheme Beauty” Box

Luckily there wasn’t anything TOO seasonal in April’s box that makes this box awkward for me to share with you all! Let’s jump right into it shall we?

*Summer Skincare* RoC | Soleil Protexion+ Invisible Touch Sunscreen SPF 45

Summer is finally here in full force and the excitement of finding the perfect go-to sunscreen begins! Spray-on sunscreens took awhile for me to get used and I still alternate between spray and lotion, but I hate getting lotion stuck in my rings when I’m out and having to reapply which is when the spray is perfect! RoC Soleil Protexion+ Invisible Touch SPF 45 ($27.00 also available in SPF 30) is a broad spectrum continuous sunscreen spray that protects and reflects both UVA and UVB rays while containing vitamin E to also condition skin.

RoC Soleil Protexion

The spray nozzle was super comfortable to use! It was incredibly ergonomic for ANY spray needs and had the perfect curve for any finger. It was the first thing I noticed as I hate spray nozzles that are flat and don’t give any grip. I couldn’t seem to capture a great angle of the nozzle so you will just have to trust me/Scientist Jayne.

Final Verdict: I found this sunscreen spray completely non-sticky which is what most of us look for in any form of sunscreen. With sprays, it always feel a bit uncomfortable during application, but when I touched my skin there wasn’t any tackiness or sticky residue. The mist is also very fine so try not to inhale! It is a truly seamless sunscreen! It still smells of sunscreen, but not like coconuts or anything overpowering (I can’t stand sunscreen that smells tropical). Honestly, if it weren’t for the scent I wouldn’t have known that I had any sunscreen on at all! Sunscreen sprays feel like a bit of a luxury, but when you need a touch-up or just don’t feel like getting your hands dirty they are perfect. If you are in the market for a truly invisible-feeling sunscreen pick up RoC Soleil Protexion+ Invisible Touch! There are a couple of other products in the Soleil Protexion+ line for the face as well which I will also be reviewing soon! I’ve also seen a few value sets in places like London Drugs that are a great opportunity to give these items a try!

Essence | LASH Mania Reloaded False Lash Mascara

It’s no secret that being Asian has given me some itty, bitty lashes. I am still not gifted in the false lash application department, so when it comes to a mascara I tend to prefer thicker lashes over length or volume. Essence LASH Mania False Lash Mascara promises to give lashes the “oomph” they need and has one of those flexible, bendy brushes that feels almost weightless in my hand.

SKINDINAVIA | The Makeup Primer Spray

I have never experienced anything like this. This product, this feeling! This is SKINDINAVIA’s The Makeup Primer Spray ($35.00) and it is both refreshing and absolutely essential in my makeup routine. You know that when a company specializes in one product, it’s probably going to be amazing which is exactly the case with SKINDINAVIA. They know their stuff!

The Body Shop | Strawberry Body Sorbet

Just the very name of this product makes my mouth water. The Body Shop’s Strawberry Body Sorbet ($15.00) is just one of five deliciously-scented body moisturizers that have been perfect for summer weather especially when refrigerated! What makes these one of the most unique moisturizers I have ever tried is the texture which I’d probably eat if you showed it to me on a plate or paired with fruit. Made with 100% organic fair trade aloe vera from Guatemala, this body sorbet is light and quick to absorb into the skin.

Benefit Cosmetics | Creaseless Cream Shadows in “Bikini-Tini” and “Always a Bridesmaid” with Swatches and Makeup Looks!

Now that summer’s here, all I can think about is getting my Vitamin D on, SPF and most importantly, makeup that doesn’t crease or melt off my face! I was not a cream makeup lover before, but after learning this year that cream blush is as Martha says, a “GOOD thing” I decided to make my move into cream eye shadows. Benefit Cosmetics Creaseless Cream Shadows ($24.00) come in 10 totally wearable colours and promise to be long-wearing without creasing or smudging. So far, so good! Today I have the colours  Bikini-Tini, an oyster pink, and Always a Bridesmaid, a pearly lavender to share with you as well as an eye look that was super fast and easy to do!

*trumpet fanfare* It’s time for April’s Vegan Cuts box! Book Review | Homemade Nail Polish by Allison Rose Spiekermann with a DIY for Purple Matte Polish and GIVEAWAY!

Have you ever wanted to make your own or “franken” your own polish? I remember when indie polishes were just starting to come out and I’d sit back and say to myself, “No, it’s too much work and I’d never be able to make any of those cool colours and everything would just end up being a hot mess”. Fast forward to a couple of years later and indie polishes have exploded! One my favourite indie polish makers is Allison from Nail Pattern Boldness who has just written Homemade Nail Polish ($20.95 CDN) and is sharing the secrets for not just creating a plain old cream polish, but for jelly and matte polishes as well! This post is very picture-heavy as Allison has decided to share one of her recipes with you all!

Happy Canada Day and Birthday to Me Nail Art!

I will keep this short as it’s a gorgeous day in Vancouver and Canada celebrations are underway, but I cannot believe I didn’t think to do some nail art for the occasion of my birth, becoming a Canadian citizen in 1995 and of course Canada’s birthday! I started off with two coats of Sally Hansen – White On, for the pointer and pinkie nails and then did a taping manicure using RGB – Red. The glitter polish I used is my first Floss Gloss in Dimepiece with my ring finger being topped off with a vinyl maple leaf decal from Beyond the Nail.

Now, it’s time to go and replace the tablet that I dropped on the floor FACE DOWN while trying to take a picture of Yoshi. YES. THAT is the REAL reason it broke. My own love of cats destroyed my tablet and my husband has been nice enough to give me a new tablet for my birthday. I’m thinking the Samsung one instead of the Nexxus that I broke. Suggestions?

Beyond the Nail | Space Cadet with Gold Nail Art Decals

What I love most about nail polish are the incredibly creative indie brands that have emerged over the years with cutting-edge colours, textures and finishes unlike what you would find in any drugstore. One of my favourite Canadian indie brands is none other than Beyond the Nail! These are two amazing women and I have watched this company grow from 2012 into a force to be reckoned with! Today I have a swatch of Space Cadet which is a purple holographic, JELLY polish! Holojelly is a combination I don’t see very often, if it all, so I am so glad I own this bad boy!
