January 2013 Ipsy Bag

January’s Ipsy Bag is all about having the tools and products to look like a super star and even had little stars printed on the inside of the bag which I thought were absolutely adorable! I always look forward to what Michelle Phan and her crew have put together and this month’s bag was another winner for me!

Soho Crease Brush

Thoughts: This is an ergonomic eye shadow brush as there are three indentations along the handle where you are meant to hold the brush. To me, this is a bit of a gimmick as it didn’t revolutionize the way I applied eye shadow. The bristles are soft , but I would have preferred it if the  bristles actually tapered to a point.

Full size: $8.99 (An educated guess based on the prices of the other brushes on the Walgreen site)

I received: *FULL SIZE*

Sexy Hair Spray and Play Volumizing Hairspray

Thoughts: I feel like I am accumulating hair spray at an alarming rate and I normally don’t use this type of product at all, but ever since I got bangs, I’ve been spraying them every morning so that they stay in place all day. I have seen this brand on a lot of beauty blogs so I’m happy to try it for myself.

Full size: 300g/$17.50

I received: 43g/$2.51

Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil

Thoughts: Oooh, I could not believe we were getting this in January’s Ipsy bag! This is 100% organic argan oil which I already own in the form of the Julep Elixir as I believe argan oil is no different from brand to brand. If the only ingredient I see is Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil it’s the same. I think you pay a little bit more for the Josie Maran label so I don’t see myself getting this in the full size unless there is some sort of value set.

Full size: 4oz/$125.00 (comes in 0.5oz/$18.00 and 1.7oz/$58.00)

I received: 0.17oz/$5.31

Pacifica Tuscan Blood Orange Body Butter

Thoughts: Mmmm, I love this moisturizer as it’s one of my favourite scents in the whole world! I love the fact that this sample was sealed and is an amazing size! Very generous!

Full size: 8oz/$15.00

I received: 2.5oz/$7.00

Nailtini Lacquer in Frappe

Thoughts: I love nail polish, but lately the nail polishes I have been receiving are bland colours like this one…I already this colour in a Zoya and a China Glaze from beauty boxes, so I really don’t see myself keeping this one. I’ll be donating this to the women’s shelter for sure.

Full size: 15ml/$13.00

I received: *FULL SIZE*

Total value of January Ipsy Bag: $36.81

Loved almost everything in the bag with the exception of the nail polish colour and another thumbs up for Ipsy!

    1. Oh that's good to know because I have so many baby hairs!

  6. I've been thinking about subscribing to Ipsy. Each month always looks so fun! Also, good on you for donating to women's shelter!

    1. A lot of what I have is just extra so I want someone to really enjoy it and a friend of mine suggested the shelter which I thought was a great idea.

  7. Nice selection of products ^^ Enjoy them all love xx

  8. My ipsy bag was a tad different. I received a concealer brush instead of the crease brush, and my Nailtini is a HOT RED!! Its called Blood Mary. I actually *just* used it an hour ago to make Valentine's nails. I do not believe all 100% organic argan oil is the same. Josie Maran's has no scent and is really rich. I am also using another brand, and it isn't as thick and it smells like cow poop. Not kidding. Its disgusting. And yet the ingredients are exactly the same. I just wonder if Josie's is a higher quality argan oil or something. I spilled half of it down the sink by accident and I actually cried. Its like a miracle potion for me. I did order the Julep argan oil, so we will see how it goes.

I absolutely LOVE this month's bag. I am using it to store my on-the-go cosmetics in my purse!

    1. Oh no! I would be so sad if that happened!
Maybe the quality is different, but that's pretty strange considering the chemical constituents should be identical if they claim 100% organic argan oil...
