MAKEUP | Pixi On-the-Glow Blush with Swatches

It has been more than a year since I have featured any form of cheek product here and when I did some digging, the last time I reviewed a blush was back in April 2020 when I was at home on lockdown and off work! For the most part, I haven't really been wearing blush at all as it seems a shame to put it on in the morning only to have it rub off with my face mask that I need to wear starting from 9am to 6pm. Maybe I need to use a new setting spray and/or a sticky primer, but blush has certainly not been a priority in the last year. However, that doesn't mean I have stopped admiring the pretty blush products that get released and when I saw the cuteness of the new Pixi Beauty On-the-Glow Blushes, I couldn't resist getting some photos and swatches done!

This is a tinted hydrating cream blush/balm that can be used on both the cheeks and lips for a matching look and is made with a formula that contains ginseng, aloe vera and fruit extracts like blueberry, raspberry and apple. They are intended to give skin a natural, glowy look that focuses more on healthy skin than a "good makeup job". These are actually made in Korea and we know that when it comes to the art of the tint and natural looking makeup, Korean makeup is where it's at!

The On-the-Glow blushes currently come in three shades: Juicy (a subtle orange), Fleur (a soft pink) and Ruby (an intense red). The product twists up from the bottom and can either be swiped onto the cheeks directly or for more control, tapped on with fingers which is the method I prefer.

I was scared at first to apply the stick directly to my face, but these blushes truly behave more like balms because they can be sheered out quite a bit as you can see from my swatches below. Fleur almost become too subtle on my skin and Ruby the most intense. Though I am not normally an orange person, Juicy was actually my favourite on my skin tone.

The formula itself is pretty sticky so while the product had no problem staying on my cheeks for the day, I didn't like using it there when I knew I had to wear a face mask which pretty much relegated me to wearing it around the house. I did enjoy looking very pretty though! As a tinted lip balm, this functioned much better for me when it came to my work makeup as it did feel fairly hydrating and that stickiness helped in keeping the colour from fading from my lips. My hmnkind mask does not touch my lips so there was no issue with friction.

Final verdict: While I generally prefer powder blush to cream, these blushes were quite pleasant to use. There is a ton of product (19g) so I won't feel badly about using this as a blush and lip balm and I have been so slack about my morning makeup routine that being able to whip out this stick and put myself together has been incredibly appealing. This isn't a product for anyone who likes a ton of pigment, but if you are looking to put together an effortless skin-centric makeup look, these blushes are the perfect product.
