DEMETER HOLIDAY COLLECTION| Scent Memory with Candy Cane Truffle Cologne Spray

Demeter Candy Cane Truffle

I haven’t talked about Demeter fragrances in awhile (review) mainly because I bought so much the first time I purchased that I am, unsurprisingly, STILL working through them all!

Demeter has an uncanny ability to capture so much more than scent. Fragrance is all about capturing an emotion, feeling or memory. This month, as our featured brand, the CBB and a few other bloggers from the network aren’t just reviewing Demeter holiday fragrances. We’re sharing a scent memory: partly beauty and partly personal so you can get to know us a little better and truly understand what each fragrance embodies.

The scent of Candy Cane Truffle* is peppermint at first and then chocolate at the end. I don’t know how Demeter was able to do it, but I guess that’s why I am reviewing instead of creating! I was scared that I would smell like toothpaste or a mint, but the “truffle” part truly makes this a wearable scent.

I grew up in a Christian household so Christmas was always celebrated, but being overseas Chinese meant that we had our own take on Christmas traditions. For instance, I’ve always known that there was no Santa so I always knew to go straight to the source (my parents) to let them know what I wanted for Christmas!

Candy Cane Truffle doesn’t take me back to my childhood though. It takes me back to 10 years ago when I was a university student because the presence of candy canes meant the end of December exams! When it came to decorating the tree, it was never done until my exams were over because it was a “job” that I hoarded all to myself! Once my last exam was written, I would go out, purchase a box of fresh candy canes from London Drugs and spend the day decorating the tree in my PJs. Smelling Candy Cane Truffle takes me back to this stress-free period of my life where exams were really the only thing to worry about, my family was still intact and life felt lighter. I’m not saying life isn’t great now, but there were definitely fewer things to worry about then. To this day, I love peppermint-scented ANYTHING because of the comfort of this particular memory.

What is your scent memory?

*CBB FEATURED BRAND: REVLON*

In honour of our featured brand and overall Revlon awesomeness I’m going to be paying some love to Revlon until the end of the month (I know it’s already the 20th, but there is so much love I can STILL give!). I am starting with an obsession I had last year with the Revlon Parfumerie nail polishes (Italian Leather swatch here) in the form of the cinnamon-scented Autumn Spice which is opaque in really just 1 coat, but I have done 2 in these photos for good measure.  The scent is warm and definitely has that spiciness to it and even lasts through a top coat.

Mary Kay | Journey Eau de Toilette

My first Mary Kay review and just in time too as Mary Kay is the featured CBB brand this month! My very first Mary Kay purchase dates back to 2006 with some eyeshadows and a matching Mary Kay eye primer which I still use to this day! What I have always loved about Mary Kay is its dedication to empowering women with earning power and being able to effectively run their own businesses from their own home while taking care of their families. It only makes sense that from now until August 15th, 2014, $2.50 from every purchase of Journey of Dreams EDT ($35.00) will be donated to the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation which supports women battling cancer through the Look Good Feel Better program. This foundation also provides grants to women’s shelters and community outreach programs so it’s really a worthwhile fragrance!

Dreams. They provide the power to overcome obstacles, achieve the impossible
and transform today into a beautiful new future. Now you can spread hope, inspire
change and encourage possibilities with the purchase of the limited-edition Beauty That Counts Journey of Dreams Eau de Toilette.

This scent is very floral and has notes of Sparkling Clementine, Rose Lychee Water, Plush Peony and Blooming Turkish Rose. The clementine and lychee definitely add a sweetness to what I would largely consider to be a very floral fragrance, but once applied to the skin, all I could smell was clementine which was a plus for me!

Final Verdict: I am not normally a floral person, but I love citrus scents and the addition of the sparkling clementine definitely made this scent one that I would wear for the spring and summer. It didn’t last very long on me as it the scent really faded at the 3-4 hour mark, but overall I thought this was a lovely fragrance for women of all ages!
