Dior Addict Extreme and Garden Edition Eyeshadow Palette

Hi Beauties!

Two weekends ago, I went to a Dior makeover event at Holt Renfrew for a fun girls day out as well a to get a chance to try out some of Dior’s new Spring colours. The only negative of my experience was that during the prep part of the makeover, there were A LOT of skincare products put on my skin like serums for my face, eyes, then my whole face…I couldn’t keep track. My skin is pretty clear and even so I’m not used to having a lot of product on it. Within the day, I started getting little white bumps around my eyes and nose. It took a few days for my skin to recover from the product overload. Anyway, the makeup part was fun so I’ll just get to that now!

I promised myself I wouldn’t go over $100 so I picked up two things: Dior Addict Extreme Lipstick in Lucky ($30) and the limited edition Garden Edition Couture Colour Eyeshadow Palette ($61). At these prices, the packaging is amazing. Everything is so sleek and luxurious. It’s the kind of packaging where you would feel badly throwing it out once you were finished! Dior products are definitely a treat and, to be honest, not something I would indulge in all that often.

I’ve been having a lot of fun wearing “Lucky” as I don’t often wear bright reds on my lips. It’s a sheer lipstick so it is quite buildable and feels more like a balm making it comfortably moisturizing. In my opinion, it has better colour hold than the Revlon lip butters that I usually have to reapply in an hour or two.

The Garden Edition palette caught my attention because I found the colours almost a little odd. Amazingly enough, I don’t own any of the greens that are in this palette and I thought it would give me a chance to try some Spring eye looks that were feminine and soft. As you can see from the swatches, the eyeshadows are pretty sheer so I’m definitely going to be wearing a primer underneath to make the colours appear more bold. I also love the little flowers in each colour! They make me not want to use any of the palette!

All in all, I enjoyed my little splurge, but I wasn’t blown away by the products. I will say that they are very pretty to look at because of the packaging and I might repurchase the lipstick if I do run out. When it comes to the eyeshadow palette, I don’t think Dior will be a mainstay because I wasn’t too impressed with the colour payoff. I will say that the Garden Edition is a great colour combination and one of the more unique Spring palettes out there!

  3. I love Dior - I once bought a eyeshadow palette from them (a long time ago, before I started grad school and still had money!) and I have an addict lipstick sample which is amazing as well. I love the smell of their cosmetics. I still have the eyeshadow compact, even though it is too old to use, I still love looking at the decadent packaging! (Ok, maybe I should chuck it now ;)

    1. I actually finished my second degree a little earlier than expected (in Dec) so I find that I'm splurging a lot more now! Well, I GUESS you should throw out the eyeshadow, but it would be so sad :-(
