Losing All Common Sense with Demeter Fragrance Library

About 10-15 years ago when I was *gasp* a teenager, I remember seeing Demeter products at London Drugs and being fascinated by how accurately this company was able to capture the oddest and most unusual scents. I had all but forgotten about this company until a Cherry Blossom Roll-On by Demeter made its way into our December BB5 and I started perusing their website. Huge freakin’ mistake! In a good way of course ;-)Each scent can be purchased in all different sizes with the cheapest being the 0.5oz bottle at $6.00 and the 0.29oz roll-on perfume oil at $10.00. You can also get each scent in the form of body oils, lotions, room sprays and diffuser oils.

The scent Grass really does smell like grass and comes complete with a story about…grass! It smells sweet and fresh like a freshly mowed lawn. Pink Lemonade is spot on and reminds me of sugary lemonade with a citrus kick. Angel Food smells absolutely delicious and is described by Demeter as containing “the critical ingredients of egg whites, sugar, vanilla and coconut. The coconut is a special touch, from a generations old Pennsylvania recipe, passed down through the family of our founding perfumer. It tastes as good as it smells, and it smells great!” Tomato is similar in scent to grass for me as it does smell fresh and “plant-like”. It’s not exactly mouth-watering like Pink Lemonade and Angel Food, but it’s pleasant all the same. I don’t think I would wear it as much though and I almost wish I had gotten it as a soap instead.

And here is where I should have probably stopped shopping, but I remembered seeing a Sanrio collection in the Demeter Fragrance Library and then I saw a gift set for all six scents! The fragrances are in little 15mL bottles and are currently happily lined up on my dresser making friends with each other. Chococat is the scent of chocolate of course and cherries, Hello Kitty is apple-scented because her favourite food is apple pie, Little Twin Stars is described as a mixture of unusual and citrus fruits that are not specified and smells kind of like guava and mango to me, My Melody is almond and vanilla-scented, Bad Badtz Maru is a combination of unsweetened pineapple, cranberry, raspberry and honeydew melon and the Sanrio signature fragrance is inspired by the scent of a Sanrio store, a combination of Japanese fruit flavored gum and scented erasers. I KNEW I recognized that scent after a childhood using Sanrio erasers!

As a bonus, with every purchase of $25 or more, Demeter included two roll-ons in Clean Linen and Clean Skin both of which smell fresh like laundry or a bar of soap. The only unfortunate thing with my order was that there was a brokerage charge of $23.45 on an order of $65.00. I know that anything over $20 is free game, but because this shipped via UPS, I know they are notorious for extra charges. I don’t know if I will order again because of the extra charges, but the products I received all smell so wonderful it might be hard to resist in the future!
