For the month of July, Birchbox has teamed up with Best Health Magazine to provide a curated selection of only the best in beauty. This “Go for the Gold” Birchbox is all about making sure that you have your “healthiest summer yet”. This is a pretty bold claim so let’s see whether it lived up to my now sky-high beauty box expectations!
Acure Organics | Sensitive Facial Cleanser
Thoughts: This is an all-vegan, sulfate, paraben, petroleum, silicone-free cleanser and though it’s a brand I have never heard of, it seems promising! I am very addicted to my Tata Harper cleaners now though so it’ll be hard for me to move to something new even for a bit, but seeing as how this is also a “healthy” cleanser it might actually slide into my new natural/powered by science routine quite nicely.
Full size: 120mL/$15.00
I received: 30mL/$3.75
Bain de Terre | Argan Oil and Passion Flower Color Therapy Styling Oil
Thoughts: This hair oil smells absolutely gorgeous! I am now officially scared to use hair oils willy nilly for fear of them ruining my blondeness, but I WILL need a travel sized hair oil when I go on vacation at the end of August so I will have to check in with my stylist to see if something like this is ok. It does say that this is safe for colour-treated hair, but I know blonde is a little different in terms of maintenance.Full size: 50mL/$14.65
I received: 2.20mL/$3.23
Benefit Cosmetics | They’re Real! Mascara
Thoughts: I have received and used this mascara a few times over the years now and I have love-hate relationship with it. I find the brush massive and while it does give me some crazy lashes, I prefer a smaller brush with more control. Formula is nice though and doesn’t weigh my lashes down.
Full size: 8.5g/$29.00
I received: 3.0g/$0.88
Number 4 | Clarifying Shampoo
Thoughts: I have been using the Number 4 Non-Aerosal Hairspray and loving it. I haven’t tried the shampoo yet, but it sure smells good! This is one of those “healthy” sulfate-free shampoos so we shall see how “clean” my hair really feels.Full size: 8.5oz-25oz/$36-$82
I received: 1oz/$4.23
Vasanti Cosmetics | BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator
Thoughts: I really love this exfoliator and have been using this on and off for the last 2 years. It is both a physical and chemical exfoliant and will make your skin glow immediately after use. I only wish I could use this every day, but alas it is far too harsh for that!
Full size: 120g/$34.00
I received: 20g/$5.67
Total Value of July Birchbox: $17.76
Final Verdict: Hmmm, the value of this Birchbox wasn’t too far from the $14.95 (including shipping) that we would pay and although the variety of products was quite nice, I was expecting…more. Maybe one less skincare product replaced with an amazing lip or eyeshadow product. The hair oil was probably my least favourite item in the box because I do not think that everyone uses them on a regular basis although I personally cannot live without them! I did like the exfoliator and the cleanser and because both are intended to be healthy for the skin, maybe “Best Health” is all about the skin first. I know most Birchboxes are winners, but this one just wasn’t quite enough for me especially since it was a collaboration with a large magazine.
Did any of you “Go for the Gold” this month? What would be in your ideal beauty box?
