This week Trysh from Prairie Beauty Love suggested an aquatic theme for our CBBxManiMonday which actually had me stumped for a day or two before I settled on a set of nails that have been done in a number of different ways, but also gave me a chance to use my mermaid scale decals from TwinkledT. I don't often use decals because in order to get the manicure finished, the base colour has to be FULLY dry in order to apply the decal or else be prepared to cry over your ripped up base coat.
PR Samples
I started off with two coats of Essie Getting Groovy* and then applied a fast drying top coat. I waited a solid 20 minutes and then did the "nail tap" test (try to tap your nails against each other and if they *tap* instead of stick then you are good to go!) to make sure my nails were dry.
Using a makeup wedge, I applied the shades Essie Gel Couture Dye-Mentions*, Essie Blossom Dandy and Essie Naughty Nautical and then sponged them on top of the mermaid nail vinyls making sure I got right into the corners and sides of the nail. Slowly peel off the decal right away and you should have a nice gradient of mermaid scales!

Once the design was fairly dry, I applied another coat of top coat to seal in the design. A glitter top coat would be quite pretty as well!
