Each mask retails for around $4, but I managed to grab these at 2/$5 at Rexall a few weeks ago which seemed a bit more reasonable for a drugstore brand. The name of the game of this mask is to hydrate the skin with hyaluronic acid using hydrogel which contours and hugs the skin in all the right places while sealing in moisture for optimal absorption.
The mask comes in two parts - one for the chin and one for the upper part of the face. This tends to be the case for hydrogel masks as the material is quite thick and and while it does hug curves, trying to get the material to go over the nose and onto the chin area smoothly would be a challenge. This is when biocellulose masks are nice because they are so thin that they can go over ANY curve smoothly!
This mask has a slight blue tinge which I really don't think is necessary, but is keeping in theme with the "blue" feelings associated with the moisture and water. There is a strong fragrance, but I found it to be a pleasant one. What I found a little concerning is the fact that the fragrance ingredient came BEFORE the hyaluronic acid...I mean, if HA is going to be the featured ingredient then maybe let's not cover it up with parfum?
As for the fit of the mask, it wasn't as great as other hydrogel masks I have tried because the bottom part of the mask keep sliding downward. The chin also kept popping up so I think a slit cut into either side would have been helpful in keep the chin in place. I couldn't even smile in my photos because the mask would slide off.
Ingredients: Water (eau), Dipropylene Glycol, Propanediol, Ceratonia Siliqua (Carob) Gum, Xanthan Gum, Chondrus Crispus Extract, Chlorphenesin, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Potassium Chloride, Parfum, Disodium EDTA, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Tremella Fuciformis Sporocarp Extract, Plukenetia Volubilis Seed Oil, Sucrose Cocoate, Tocopherol, Blue 1
The essence itself was fairly watery and did not leave a residue on my skin which was a plus.
Final verdict: While this mask did hydrate my skin, the effects were short-lived and I definitely felt the need for moisturizer afterwards. I know that masks are not intended for moisturizer to be skipped, but with most of the Korean sheet masks I use, moisturizer FEELS optional. I also wasn't thrilled with the fit of this mask so at the regular price of $4 even $5 in some drugstores, I do not think this mask is worth it. For $2.50, it's worth the fun and experience. I will be including one in my #35MaskGiveaway so that one lucky reader will know what I am talking about!
The Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrogel Mask is available on Amazon, London Drugs, Rexall and other drugstores across Canada.
