Yes, I know that we have now moved on to two new Pantone colours, but I much prefer Classic Blue to Ultimate Gray and Illuminating. I also may have lost track of time and thought it was still 2020 when I took all of my photos for this launch, but the VDL x Pantone collaboration for 2020 was just too pretty to not talk about. Blue is one of my favourite colours especially in this particular shade!

VDL is a well known and more luxe Korean beauty brand, but only launched in Canada in 2018 so is still fairly new to most. Their cult product is their Lumilayer Primer which comes in a number of finishes, but the one for the Pantone collection is their classic finish with a fine pearl-like effect that revives the complexion as well as gives the illusion of lift in the skin. The product is the same, but the packaging has a beautiful matte blue cap that I love seeing on my counter.

Multi Color Auto Pencil Liner in Blue
These eyeliners aren't inexpensive at $38 each so I was a little disappointed that this blue didn't blow me away. The texture was nice, it was soft and buildable in colour, but maybe I just didn't like how soft the pencil was? It does have a smudger on the end so it was nice to use as a pop of colour on the lower lash line. It did work well for the look I put together and stayed locked in place so maybe this eyeliner IS actually amazing and I'm just being difficult. I was quite vigorous with rubbing my swatch and the lines didn't blur so you will need an oil-based makeup remover to get this off!
Expert Color Eye Book No.2 (Cool Tone)
In addition to this palette, there is a neutrals palette that is probably more up my alley. Though this cool tones palette has some fun shades, I honestly didn't know what to do with most of the shades save for a shimmery smoky eye. I also found the blush shade a bit chalky and too pastel pink for my skin tone.
Pigmentation was pretty good and though the shadows weren't the most buttery in texture, they performed fairly well with me using my finger for the shimmery shades to pack on MORE shimmer.
As I said, I was a bit lost when it came to what to do with this palette as I am someone that essentially needs a paint by numbers guide for eyeshadow so I focused on the minty shimmery green of "Limpet Shell" and blending it with the dragon scales brown "Brass Knuckles". It actually turned out alright!

Final verdict: If you are a fan of VDL, picking up your favourite products in the limited edition Classic Blue packaging is an easy choice, but if you are new to the brand, I would start with the Lumilayer Primer and their cushion foundations which are also part of this collection. Personally, I found the eyeshadow palette really expensive ($68 CDN) for the results, but the Classic Blue collection is now on sale for 50% off so I would take this opportunity to try a few things!
