SKINCARE | True and You Customizable Glacial Clay Mask (Made in Canada!)

Here we are at New Year's Eve 2021 and I am sure we are all wondering how we got here in one piece with the "super fun" year we have had. I mean, it was a better year than 2020 where we got to see some semblance of outdoor life, but what I found the hardest was what was happening globally and politically. I will reflect more on 2021 in my "Resolutions" post tomorrow, but for now I wanted to end the year on a Canadian brand that I have been enjoying - True and You which stands for "true" ingredients that are customized for "you"!

Based in Toronto and founded by Saumya Saxena, True and You launched this year and focuses on simplifying skincare and using fewer products that are customized to your skin. While I am more than okay with a 10-12 step skincare routine, I also appreciate the efficiency of a product that takes care of multiple steps. I like the act of the routine as much as I do the results. Saumya decided to start with the customizable Glacial Clay Mask which underwent 2 years of R&D and initially, surprised me as an odd choice to start, but this mask is so much more!

Firstly, this is a clay mask and is made with Canadian glacial clay, but if you look at the rest of the ingredients, there are things in here that you don't normally see in clay masks like aloe leaf juice, mango seed butter, the active form of vitamin C, avocado oil and cocoa seed butter. This is just the base and already it promises to fade dark spots, actually HYDRATE (seriously, it does!) and bring radiance to the skin.

The packaging has minimal plastic with each mask and booster comes in a cardboard box with the jars being made of glass and the lids look to be a combination of plastic on the inside and bamboo on the outside.

The customizable part comes when you order the mask as you will be asked to add one booster to mix in: brighten, calm, detox or rejuvenate. If you aren't sure what you might need, take the 30 second quiz here! These boosters are intended to target a specific skin concern while enjoying the already fantastic benefits of the mask on its own.

I received two boosters: Brighten and Rejuvenate which I mixed together with the clay mask. The Brighten booster contains exfoliating and brightening ingredients like: glycolic acid, L-ascorbic acid (active form of Vitamin C) and caviar lime which contains AHAs.

The Rejuvenate Booster has caffeine, black cumin seed oil and my favourite, safflower oleosomes! I don't see this ingredient very often, but it is an amazing ingredient when it comes to hydration because it is "time-released" delivery system of moisture. This means that oleosomes slowly collapse and release moisture over time so that your skin consistently remains hydrated for a longer period of time. This is maybe only the third skincare product I have seen using safflower oleosomes so kudos to True and You!

Mix everything together and it turns into this super smooth, emollient clay mask that I apply with the included bamboo facial brush. It is a super smooth formula to apply and feels very creamy. There is enough in the jar for at least 10-12 uses.

Final verdict: This mask was by far one of the most hydrating masks I have ever used let alone CLAY mask! I almost wrote this off because clay masks tend to make my skin feel tight upon removal, but not this one! Firstly, I liked that I didn't need to slather it on so thickly that you couldn't see my skin anymore,  but when you remove the mask, my skin felt soft, but also had a creamy feeling like I had already applied my moisturizer! It looked radiant, hydrated and my cheeks looked perfectly pink and my skin looked so flawless! I cannot begin to say how much I enjoyed this mask! I've already used it a few times and have enjoyed it immensely!
