Youthforia Date Night Skin Tint Serum Foundation

Purchased by me

I have been raving about Youthforia for the last couple of months and since it is Asian-owned and founded, it seemed like the PERFECT brand to showcase for #LunarFebruary as I usually don't get the chance to feature a lot of makeup brands. It is often skincare brands that are Asian owned and what is interesting about Youthforia is that the premise is that this is "makeup you can sleep in"!

Founded in 2021 by Fiona Co Chan, Youthforia shot to social media fame on TikTok for its colour-changing blush oil. I mean, I see why since it's green in the package and comes out a lovely pink on the cheeks! It makes for the perfect viral makeup video so then Fiona went on Shark Tank and THAT'S where I discovered the brand because I am obsessed with this show (see her pitch here)! I love seeing the pitches and seeing the Sharks battle it out. I watched Fiona demo the BYO Blush and listened to her story of how she used to work in the tech industry and have to travel to very polluted Asia for work. She would often fall asleep in her makeup and then her skin would pay the price so she wanted to develop makeup that if you slept in it, it wouldn't ruin her skin, but more importantly she wanted makeup that acted like skincare. Off to Korea she went and Youthforia was born as all the makeup products are made there though Youthforia is an American company.

The first product Fiona created was the BYO Blush which I will review separately because the product that made me bite the bullet and purchase was when Youthforia announced the Date Night Skin Tint Serum Foundation ($66 USD) as foundation is one of my favourite things to try and at the luxury price of $66 USD, I am one of those people who sees foundation as more of a skincare product so I am more willing to spend on a foundation than any other makeup product.

The concept of "makeup that acts like skincare" is not new, but after using Youthforia for a few months almost daily now that their execution of both packaging and formula is superior to what I have tried in the past from other "clean beauty brands".

Youthforia Date Night Skin Tint Serum Foundation

This is a serum-like foundation with buildable coverage made with 68% skincare actives and a patented tannin complex that allows the foundation to melt into the skin for a smoother finish all while controlling sebum levels so that this foundation doesn't quit until you say so!

While it says you can sleep in this, I really don't like the idea of doing that, but it's good to know that this would be a good travel foundation the next time I go to Paris while crossing several time zones! There are currently only 15 shades so not too inclusive at the moment, but hopefully more come out with time though they say these shades are "flexible" and can cover a few shades above/below.

Below is from bare to full face! I have tried fingers, brush and beauty sponge to apply this foundation and I would have to say that fingers and brush are my preferred methods which is unusual because I live for my beauty sponges! A little also goes a long way so I actually just use HALF a pump for my face.

This foundation ended up being WAY more high coverage than I thought it would be! When I first used it, I applied just a few dots and blended in with my fingers and it was lightweight and had medium coverage. The texture is a cross between a serum and an ink and truly does feel like nothing on the skin. It also has a very subtle dewy finish so you can get away with not using powder if you are someone like me who likes my skin to feel completely bone dry to the touch when it comes JUST to makeup! For my skincare routine, I like somewhat dewy and moist to the touch skin!

When I decided to use my Juno & Co. velvet sponge to apply the foundation, I was shocked at how this foundation went immediately to high coverage! Firstly, I only needed a half pump to cover my entire face and neck area. Using a brush proved to be a bit easier to blend out the inky serum texture and I will admit that initially, I didn't like how high coverage it looked on my skin, but it wears better and better as the day goes on! It actually starts to look less "plastic" and more like real skin at the end of the day which is insane! On days where I just want coverage on my red areas, I will use my fingers and my skin still looks fantastic!

I also found that though my foundation didn't look perfect after 12 hours, it didn't look even remotely bad either! I also didn't have a super oily face around my nose, forehead and chin and truly felt like the foundation just looked more and more like it was part of my skin as the day progressed! Even with setting powder, I was able to easily use the BYO Blush on top and blend without disturbing the "under layers".

The photo above was taken with my iPhone 14 Pro in front of a window so you can see the finish of this foundation with a ringlight + DSLR and natural lighting. It is incredibly long-wearing and it is hands down one of THE most flawless looking and comfortable foundations I have worn in a VERY long time! I think as I get older, I want to be able to wear makeup that flexes with the wrinkles of my skin and I believe this foundation will be one of those products!

Final verdict: I have literally been wearing this foundation every day since I got it in November to work and even on my days off just to spot conceal. I love everything about it from the frosted glass packaging to the deep purple cap. I love the incredibly lightweight formula that seems to be able to go from light to high coverage and the most magical thing for me as how much BETTER this foundation looks the longer you wear it! Imagine how good I could look coming off a 10 hour flight?! As a Canadian, I paid quite a price for this foundation, but it is better than so many foundations I have tried and I have a feeling, I will have an empty by the end of this year!
