NYX Duck Plump High Pigment Gloss

Purchased by me

Some of you may have seen the marketing for the new NYX Cosmetics Duck Plump High Pigment Lip Gloss and I will say now that it had nothing to do with my decision to pick them up! If you haven't seen anything, it involved many men thinking that they could use this product to plump up their own genitalia. WHERE this marketing idea came from, I have no idea since literal humour like this is often seen as a bit cheap, but hey, it got everyone talking!

Coming in 18 shades (though it says only 9 on the Canadian website vs. the US website), these lip glosses are highly pigmented, shiny and are infused with spicy ginger that promises to plump lips with continued use. And why is it called "Duck" Plump? I don't know when this trend started, but for awhile I think every girl's selfie pose involved pursing their lips together to look like, well, a duck, I actually still think I see this from time to time...has it been 20 years already since this trend started? Everything old is coming back now so I wouldn't be surprised!

These stoutly shaped tubes come with what I would consider to be a mega doe-foot applicator! I don't necessarily have narrow lips, but I have to wipe off almost half of what comes out because the applicator is loaded with just SO MUCH product! The pigmentation is also intense as promised and while it does not stay super shiny for more than an hour, the colour that is left behind is quite nice.

Does it plump? Let me just say that NYX did not mess around as I have never in my life applied something so intensely fiery to my lips or any part of my body! Holy moly! Firstly, in the ingredients list while there is a mention of ginger extract, the ingredient that is in higher concentration is Capsicum frutescens fruit extract which comes from chilli peppers. I think THAT is where the heat is coming from!

In terms of spice comparison, I have tried all levels of Too Faced Lip Injection and DuWop Lip Venom which I would consider to be two of the more iconic lip plumping products, but Duck Plump, if applied using the full amount on the wand (which is what I did the first time I tried it) is like 10x more intense mainly because it STAYS spicy on the lips for like an hour! It does start to die down, but you can still feel that tingle hours after application so be warned!

I wear Mauve Out My Way a bit more as I kind of like the more nude/brown look it has on me, both are very wearable for every day which is what I was looking for. Gone are those days of hot pinks and reds for Jayne! It's mainly because I get super paranoid that the colour will move or get displaced and then I will have messed up looking lips. I am less paranoid if it is a matte formula since I know it won't move once the product has set.

Final verdict: I like the shades I picked up, but now that I have experienced these glosses I see no need for me to pick up more. I don't necessarily use them all the time as there are some days you just don't want your lips to be on fire! I mean, NYX was very honest about what this product would do and they delivered! I am sure the claims of your lips getting bigger with continued use are true because they are literally inflamed for hours with every use, but you can tone down the spicy sensation by applying less product.

You can find the NYX Cosmetics Duck Plump High Pigment Lip Gloss at all major drugstores across Canada. I picked up mine at London Drugs when they were on sale!
