Have you ever thought of good skincare as having good haircare as well? That's what dermatologist-developed brand is all about! Developed by Dr. Iris Rubin, SEEN promotes both healthy hair and skin and is especially the answer for those suffering with eczema, sensitive skin on the face and scalp and autoimmune diseases. Instead of hiding because of reactive skin or hair, this haircare brand let's you be SEEN!
As a teenager, Dr. Rubin struggled with acne and also had curly hair which she used a variety of products "to tame". As a dermatologist, she learned that haircare products can contribute to a number of skin issues and she often wondered why she often broke out after using certain haircare products or had her done at the salon. Some studies show that leave-in and even rinse off products leave residues that eventually migrate to other parts of the face and body hours after being applied. I definitely have this in mind because I sleep with my face on my pillow A LOT and I don't wash my hair every day so my dry shampoo and hair serums must be getting on my pillow and therefore on my face!
I received the scented versions of the shampoo and conditioner, but there are fragrance-free versions as well. The scent is very subtle and it barely registers in my brain, but all I can say is that it is not quite floral, but not quite sweet? It is actually something I have never smelled before, but it IS pleasant!
This shampoo is sulfate and silicone-free and uses hemisqualane as a plant sugar-derived silicone alternative that reduces frizz and improves overall texture of hair. To take care of the skin, this formula contains soothing bisabolol and had a reeaallly satisfying lather! A lot of the time with these "cleaner" formulas, lather is seen as "stripping" and just plain evil, but in this case, I feel like it really added to the experience!
This shampoo actually feels super soothing on the scalp especially when I am on my final and third day of no-shampoo. The moment it hits my scalp and I start massaging the formula in and the rich lather starts foaming, I feel a lot of the itchiness go away. This shampoo is also colour safe, but I still use a purple shampoo/conditioner once a week to keep brassiness at bay because getting hair coloured is expensive so I take no risks!

As for the Conditioner, the formula is very lightweight and once I rinsed it out, my hair instantly felt smoother and "more plump" if that makes any sense! It also was not tangled after I took it out of my Aquis hair towel which it usually is! This is one of things this conditioner promised to do and I noticed right away!
This conditioner also contains hemisqualane and bisabolol so even at the second stage of "hair cleansing", we are still taking care of the skin and making sure it's happy!
So, my only real gripe about the products is the packaging in that it's hard to get the product out. The formula for the shampoo is a little bit more fluid than the conditioner, so I don't have to squeeze the container as hard, but the conditioner, I have to shake upside down even when the bottle was almost full and squeeze. I feel like a pump mechanism would be better for both formulas.
Final verdict: I kind of liked both products! They are pretty pricey products though at $41 each and though both felt like they were helping my scalp and made my hair feel relatively smooth, the fact that the brand is only available in the USA is a big deterrent for me. If it were available in Canada in the future, perhaps I would purchase on my own especially their Magic Serum which I am very curious about! For now, I will enjoy the bottles I have and hope someone eventually carries it in Canada!
