Secretly Collecting…?

In addition to collecting nail polish and beauty products, I also have another passion…collecting stuffties…specifically microbial stuffties! I started collecting them in university, but you can also get them at Giant Microbes. These guys really make infection and disease seem so cute! I cannot get enough of them! Here are the ones I have so far:

DSCF4309

Blue = rhinovirus (aka “the common cold”), green = orthomyxovirus (aka “influenza”) and purple = Epstein-Barr virus (aka “kissing disease/mono)DSCF4310

Beige = shigella (aka “stomach ache”), yellow = Heliobacter pylori (aka “ulcer”), pink = Treponema pallidum (aka “syphilis”) and black = Yersinia pestis (aka “Black Death”)DSCF4311

I remember giving one of these guys as a gift to a friend of mine and actually saying,”I gave her syphilis because she really wanted it” without really thinking about how it may have sounded out of context! Will you be cuddling up with a giant microbe anytime soon?

    1. Ulcer was my first because at the time, I was suffering from a lot of stomach pains so I got a toy to match my ailment!

  5. lol Chris just did an advanced first aid course and if the instructor seen you give someone medical attention without wearing gloves she'd give you one of these diseases and it stuck with you for the entire 2 week. I think Chris ended up with herpes? So funny :P I love these, I remember digging through them at Science North (science centre back home) and wanting all of them!

  6. These are awesome! I love stuffed animals too, but I've never seen anything like these before - I love the little purple one with the long lashes (mono). It's especially funny, as you mentioned, when used in a sentence out of context - e.g. "My husband gave me an ulcer for Christmas". That syphilis bit is hilarious!
