When belif entered The Face Shop all were excited about this new KBeauty - apothecary herbal fusion of a brand. While I have tried a few things here and there, I haven't REALLY gotten around to trying the brand at its fullest and when I was invited into The Face Shop to look at their new VDL beauty line, I was also given the opportunity to try a couple of belif products. In addition to the cult favourite True Cream Moisturizing Bomb, I picked up one of the more pricey sheet masks in the store - The belif Aqua Bomb Sheet Mask* ($11.00 CDN) which is unique instant hydration mask in that it comes in two parts. The first part is the 100% pure cotton mask, which feels like a soft t-shirt, and the second is the actual essence that must be physically "popped" into the mask side of the packaging. I have terrible luck with popping essences and this was no different!
You can see the numbers "1" and "2" with dotted lines along the bottom of the packaging which indicate the two folds required to generate enough force to pop the divide between the two sides. The idea behind these types of masks is to ensure the mask and its benefits are as fresh as possible once they hit your skin. I have only used a few of this type of mask and I honestly don't feel like there is too much of a difference. Once sheet masks are sealed, they are good for years!
Of course, I had some issues with the popping so I asked my husband to press really hard and lo and behold, I started seeing the mask soak up the essence. Be sure to massage the mask and the essence around well before taking the mask out because I thought I had done a good job, but then when I took it out, there were full on dry patches so I had to manually apply the essence to the mask itself! The scent of the essence itself was fairly light and refreshing. No complaints here!
Note that there is the silicone cyclopentasiloxane in the mask essence so there will be a smoothing effect in addition to locking in existing moisture.

I found the fit of the mask to be alright, but not perfect. The mouth area seemed a bit large and I dislike it when masks cover my lips which is why it looks like the chin is really bunched up as that was the only way I could get my lips exposed. If I had smoothed it all out then the mask would have gone a little more under my chin. The forehead and nose fit better than other masks for me with the sides of the mask extending slightly into my hairline.
Final verdict: So yes, my skin was hydrated, but even after a long 2 hours of tackiness, it still hung around even after I had applied my regular moisturizer. The essence itself was quite soft and plump, but I am not sure if I would purchase this mask again (I actually have another one that I bought earlier this year) as I'm not a fan of popping the essence. I also did not find this any more hydrating than say my Papa Recipe Bombee Honey Mask or my Maskeraide Detox Diva which both leave a less tacky finish and hydrate without silicones. Oddly enough, if I were visiting Montreal where the air is SUPER drying, I probably would use this mask as a shield for the day!
