FAVOURITES | My Current Top 7 Lip Balms

I have forgotten how much fun it is to do round-ups! They are quite liberating and let's face it guys, do you REALLY want to read a WHOLE post about one little lip balm? Unless the lip balm is glittery, bubbles or changes colour, I dunno if I'd even be that interested in writing the damn post! Originally, I had just five lip balms to share with you, but I couldn't decide on just five. Since the beauty world likes odd numbers for favourites (hello numbers 1, 5, 11 or 13!) I have upped the number of favourite lip balms to lucky number seven!

THE BALMS

Let's start with an oldie, but a goodie - the Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm* SPECIFICALLY in peppermint. I have tried other varieties of Burt's Bees lip balms, but I can never move away from this flavour. Though this tube is a PR sample, I have been purchasing tubes of this stuff long before my blogging days and this is probably the 4th or 5th tube I have ever used. I like peppermint and have a few lip balms with a peppermint scent, but there is something about how this one tingles just the right amount on the lips, smells refreshing and seals in moisture. This is usually the first thing I put on my lips the moment I come out of the shower or after removing my lip colour at the end of the day.

I am a little bit sad about this one because I just found out that you cannot find this lip balm anymore as Vancouver-based Fable Naturals was a company I had only discovered in 2015 when I had seen a "super cool" squeeze out lip balm somewhere on the Internets. In 2016, I went to the Etsy event held at the Shipyards in North Vancouver and found their booth where I promptly bought this lip balm in Vanilla Orange, a face oil and a quinoa exfoliator. This a vegan, beeswax-free lip balm and instead uses olive fruit oil, carnauba wax, cocoa butter and coconut oil to moisturize the lips, And just like toothpaste, squeeze up the recyclable cardboard tube to get more lip balm!

Though the news of Fable closing was sad, the good news is that the founders of Fable have moved onto a new venture with Hola Deodorant which I will be picking up some time this year when I have used up my current stash of natural deodorants because natural deodorants are getting better and better!

THE GLOSSIES

The Mary Kay Satin Lips* line has been around for a loooong time and every year/season? or so, they release new scents of their lip balm and lip scrub with this year's being White Tea and Citrus. The Shea Butter Lip Balm is one of those balms that is a bit more "slip-slidy" on the lips and gives a bit of shine. I like this lip balm if I am needing to comfort my lips after a crazy swatch session or after a matte lipstick has been forcibly removed.

You can find the Mary Kay Satin Lips Lip Balm at Mary Kay.

Danish green beauty company, NUORI, was introduced to me at a Green and Pure event last year and this is skincare company where there are freshness dates on all of their products including WHEN to start using the product before it is not at its best. Products are blended in small batches every 12 weeks to ensure freshness. This company makes products free from parabens, synthetic colour, phthalates, mineral oil, petrolatum, PEGs, sulfates, MEA, DEA, TEA, polypropylene glycol and silicones. They don't last too long so if you ever buy a NUORI product, you had better use it up FAST!

I picked up this Lip Treat and what I love about it is the super tiny opening because it also can be used as a highly moisturizing cuticle oil! This lip balm is chockful of plant-based oils, but isn't greasy and is in fact quite "solid". I do have to reapply every few hours or so as my lips love to absorb this stuff right up!

You can find NUORI at The Detox Market and Clemetine Fields.

THE PINK GLOSSIES

Every lip balm has its coloured siblings starting with the newly reformulated Clarins Hydra-Essential Moisture Replenishing Lip Balm*. This has a slight pink tint to it and does contain mineral oil so it is very much one of those "sealant" lip glosses for me where it's more about moisture being locked in than hydration. That being said, there is still shea butter in the formula so there will be some moisture being added to the lips.

I got to know IMAGE Skincare a few months ago and though I have yet to move onto their skincare (I REALLY WANT TO AND WILL SOON), I have been enjoying their Ormedic Sheer Pink Lip Enhancement Complex* during the day as it enhances the volume and fills in lip lines with a small amount of trimethicone and even has oligopeptides for volume enhancement over time! It is a fairly smooth lip balm and gives a hint of shine. Reapplication is necessary after a few hours.

IMAGE Skincare is available at select medispas.

THE UNCATEGORIZABLE

There are some mixed reviews on the new Deciem Abnomaly Petrowhat? Lip and Skin Ointments, but I am one of those people that is really happy with such a unique product! These are free of petrolatum with the number one ingredient being plant-derived squalane which if you have ever used a squalane-based cuticle oil, is incredibly hydrating. There are also a whackload of 11 amino acids that are supposed to aid with long-term hydration as they are "skin-identical". The only odd thing about having these amino acids in the formula is that it gives this lip balm (the other three flavours too) a weirdly salty taste.

Abnomaly Petrowhat? in Coconut Milk

I will be doing a full review of these lip balms in the next day or two as I have purchased all 4 flavors, but the consistency is very unique. The scent of the Coconut Milk is my favourite, which is why I have featured it here, and comes in a metal tube. The balm is a cross between water (squalane) and oil and you need the tiniest amount to cover your lips. There is no greasy finish and I find that this absorbs right into my lips and then I forget about them because they are hydrated without having that typical lip balm finish sitting on my lips. The non-greasy finish makes it PERFECT as a cuticle balm too! No greasy keyboard for me!
