KBEAUTY | Holika Holika Gold Caviar Foil Mask

This week has felt incredibly tiring mainly because I am not used to getting up at 6am for work and coming home 11 hours later. I am a night owl so even trying to force myself to sleep earlier means falling asleep at 1am. I had my new crown put in on Tuesday with no freezing (I just hate how long it takes for the effects to wear off) and trotted off to work right away so that I could have my day off later this week FULLY to myself. Today was a hellish day at work with a VERY rushed inventory that had all of us in at 7:45am until 7pm! We were all total zombies by the end and by the time I left work, I wanted to eat, sleep and vomit all at the same time. It was just a FANTASTIC feeling.

I know I have been taking my sheet mask game VERY seriously this last month and this week I have really found myself looking forward to the pamper time. Even though I have a schedule in place for which sheet masks to wear on each day in my bullet journal (for realz), I deviated from the plan this week because I REALLLLY wanted to try the Holika Holika Gold Foil Mask ($5 USD)!

This foil mask contains 100,000 ppm Beluga caviar extract and one bottle of "gold capsule essence" along with other goodies like niacinamide and Japanese Pepper Fruit to brighten and improve skin strength and elasticity. Honestly, I think the gold is just like any other cosmetic or colloidal gold that you see in various "gold-powered" skincare products so I wasn't too phased by the romantic skin talk. It is obvious why I picked this mask up from Cosmetic Love and though I love the classic cotton sheet mask, I also love being a WWE fighter once in awhile!

The mask comes in two parts, which I love because the fit is so much better, and is gold foil on one side for insulation and black charcoal on the other which is meant to aid in better essence absorption. Having the charcoal fabric side definitely felt more comfortable to wear, but one thing about these thicker types of masks that I have tried, including the foil one from Mask.Lab, is that the sheet mask itself never holds as much essence as the traditional cotton sheet mask. This means that I often feel a bit "dry" during my 15-20 minutes of mask time.

There was little scent to the essence and you know how the first 10 seconds of a sheet mask are always "OMG, it's so cold! I can't put the whole thing on my face!"? You don't feel that initial shock of temperature with this mask because of the mask material. The charcoal side almost feels like flannel and because the mask isn't sopping with essence, it does feel a bit more comfortable to apply.

Ingredients: Water/Aqua, Caviar Extract, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Niacinamide (brightening), Lonicera Japonica (Honeysuckle) Flower Extract, Zanthoxylum Pipentum Fruit Extract (antioxidant), Citrus Paradisi (Grapefruit) Fruit Extract, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Dimethicone, Sucrose Palmitate, Xanthan Gum, Carbomer, Colloidal Gold, Disodium Edta, Punica Granatum Fruit Extract, Panax Ginseng Callus Culture Extract, Brassica Napus Sprout Extract, Yeast Extract, Adenosine, Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Hyaluronate, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance

The overall fit of the mask was quite good as there were strategic slits on the sides and along the nose. The "moustache" area was also a good width so there wasn't any mask covering the top part of my lips. I always have issues with the chin unless it's a biocellulose or very thin cotton mask and because this mask was a much thicker material, I knew fussing with the chin was an exercise in futility.

Final verdict: This mask has a bit of dimethicone in it which makes me waffle a bit on efficacy, but it was SUPER fun to wear. With the tough week I have had so far, this cheered me up and put me in a much better mental space! As for the actual results of the mask, there was very little tackiness and my skin looked very refreshed upon removal. When I applied my thicker La Praire moisturizer on top, my skin felt fantastic and it was a pleasant addition to my current skincare routine. Though I don't see myself buying foil masks on a regular basis, I wouldn't mind having a handful of them on hand just for fun! Oh wait, I have 4 more just in case...definitely worth trying out!
