MAKEUP | Mary Kay Timewise Matte 3D Foundation

You know what I have just noticed? It seems that I only have blog reviews for foundation every summer despite switching things up during the colder months as well. Maybe summer just feels like a good time to do it, but for the last 3 years that seems to be the trend for me so in keeping with old habits, here is my review for the new Mary Kay Timewise Matte 3D Foundation

Is it just me, or do some of you find it hard to segue right into an introduction of what you are about to talk about? Anyway, this matte finish foundation comes in 28 shades and promises 12 hours of oil control, a weightless and sweat-resistant formula and microspheres that act like a sponge to absorb oil so that there won't be any creasing in fine lines.

This is a buildable medium to full coverage foundation and though it says on the bottle that this formula is intended for oily to combination skin, my normal/dry skin was totally fine with it. If anything, I wouldn't have even know it was made for that skin type if I hadn't read it on the packaging because I had zero dry patches. I was sent the shades: 110, 120 and 200 and initially I thought I would be in the 100s, but NO! 200 was PERFECT. I swatched them all on my face with my husband next to me and even he looked at 200 on my face and said "Oh, that is like a perfect match for you!" So, Jayne is the shade 200!

I have applied foundation to half my face and indicated on the right areas that always need covering up for me, so you can see that this foundation has covered up the redness around my nose and the broken capillaries on my cheeks. As I don't have a lot of issues with my skin, I stick with light to medium application of most foundations and I found that one pass with my Beauty Blender all over my face (with a focus on my nose) is enough for flawless coverage. I should note though that I didn't find this foundation to have a matte finish compared to let's say the MAKE UP FOR EVER Matte Velvet Skin. If anything, I found this formula to be on the creamy satin side.

Here I am with a full face of makeup where I have added on loose powder to lock in the foundation and blush. I thought about using concealer, but decided against. I spritzed my whole face with Skindinavia setting spray and went off to work!

This is my face at 10pm after applying my makeup at 8am so that's 12 hours of wear - right at the breaking point! You can see that my blush has broken down as I get super shiny there all the time. The redness around my nose is starting to peak through and I have a bit more shine on my forehead. Honestly, I still felt comfortable enough to go out in this state, but this is certainly not the most matte finish foundation I have tried nor the most long-lasting.

Final verdict: While its oil-control powers were not quite there for me, I still enjoyed this foundation because for one, it's one of the few foundations that match me perfectly and on the whole, I prefer a more luminous finish to my foundations to begin with so even though I had some oil showing through at the end of a work day, the formula didn't break down enough during the day for me to feel the need to touch up or hide and not see people. I also found this formula to be almost hydrating for me, so not sure how actual oily/combo skin types fared with this, but I would definitely still use this in the winter for when my skin actually gets quite dry. Needless to say, I have been using this foundation for the last month or so for work (I use lighter coverage when I'm at home) so it's obvious I enjoy it despite a few personally experienced discrepancies.
