YSL has some pretty makeup with pretty packaging, but eight years ago this brand became one that I will ALWAYS have a soft spot for because I was PROPOSED to with an engagement ring at the bottom of a box of Touche Eclat! I have kept that EXACT Touche Eclat as well as the box as a treasured memory and though it's probably not safe to use on my skin anymore, I'm probably never going to throw it away (or look to see if there is anything growing on it...) Now, I have yet another thing(s) that I will never be able to get rid of because this limited edition Rouge Pur Couture Stud Collectors packaging is SO CUTE and striking! Inspired by rocker chic studs, these came out late last year and I wish I had paid more attention, but Christmas is always so crazy for me at work that I'm pretty much on autopilot until Dec. 27th!

Here is where I wanted to love something, but I'm so torn. So, you have this crazy looking precision bullet which actually works out quite well for me and my pointy cupid's bow as well as a "leather-matte" finish with a powdery feel. Once the shades were on, I thought the pigmentation and finish looked pretty cool, but what I didn't like was how large the bullet seemed to feel and how much tugging there was in order to get the colour deposited onto my lips!
"21 Rouge Paradoxe"
When it comes to bullet shapes, I know understand why the BOTTOM of a lipstick is round. It's because the BOTTOM of my lip is round and I didn't realize what a challenge it was to apply a DIAMOND shaped bullet to a rounded surface. I felt clumsy and blind with a giant blind spot to deal with. The only way I could see was to wind the lipstick quite high so what I ended up doing was applying the bulk of the colour in the middle and using a lip brush. I get that one side is flat so I can apply on an angle, but I still felt very awkward and when applying intense shades like these, I want to feel confident in my application!
Longevity was good because these lipsticks had a low transfer factor, but again eating did cause the colour to wear a bit and the edges to soften so wear a lip liner!
"8 Contrary Fuchsia"
Final verdict: This was my first time using either of these finishes and though I wanted to love the coolness of The Slims, I feel like I have a plethora of other options that won't tug at my lips or make me doubt my application skills. The satin-cream finish though, these I will have a closer look at in more neutral finishes in maybe a lighter pink or more nude shade, but later. These are such a splurge that I'm going to wait until the next Sephora Rouge event, but I thoroughly enjoyed them!
You can find the original YSL Beauty Rouge Pur Couture Lipsticks at all YSL counters and Sephora.
