SHEET MASK | Consonant HydrExtreme Charcoal Sheet Mask

Ooh, it has been a long time since I have talked about Toronto-based skincare brand Consonant, but they are always in the back of my mind as a steady skincare constant. Though their award-winning Natural Foaming Face Wash is still one of my favourite cleansers, my abundance of skincare and cleansers this has led me to a long absence from this brand until I realized they had a SHEET MASK. Those two magic words are like my "skincare panty-drop" so I immediately picked up a pack from Sephora when I found out they carried the brand. The HydrExtreme serum is a massive cult favourite that is made with only TWO ingredients: a proprietary blend of Cassia Angustifolia Seed Extract and Vegetable Glycerine which supposedly outperforms hyaluronic acid. I have not tried this serum (yet!) as it is a pricey one, but it is on my list for later this year. The HydrExtreme Charcoal Sheet Mask is infused with this very blend and is the first charcoal mask I've tried that smells REALLY good!

Purchased by me

Knowing that this mask is based on the formula of an award-winning product really has me wishing I had a way to compare whether this mask has a comparable potency though I'm guessing not seeing as how the serum is $149 compared to this mask which is $12, but it's nice to know that my skin is even receiving a fraction of that supposed goodness!

The purpose of this mask is pretty clear cut as you've got a charcoal fibre mask which purifies the skin by drawing out excess sebum and then you have the mask soaking in the HydrExtreme essence which is an anti-aging and hydrating blend that leaves the skin soft, smooth and plump. This essence smelled oh so good so I am hoping that the day I purchase the HydrExtreme serum, it will smell the same way!

Consonant HydrExtreme Charcoal Sheet Mask Review

Mask Summary:

Price: $12 CDN for one or $45 CDN/Pack of 4
Skin concerns: Dryness, anti-aging
Scent: A little of that classic charcoal mask scent, but then mainly citrusey
Essence Type: Clear with light viscosity
Duration: 20-30 minutes
Thickness: Fairly thin (compared to other charcoal masks) with fibres feeling flexible
Mask Fit: Mostly good, but the chin was a bit short so it kept lifting. Lots of slits everywhere making the overall fit of the mask nice.
Tackiness: Light
Hydration: Good!
Other notes: There was not a lot of extra essence in the pack. There was just enough to keep the mask on my face and moist for the entire 30 minutes.

Final verdict: I have tried a lot of charcoal sheet masks and the one thing I noticed is that they all smell the same - like a kind of herbal scent which I am assuming is the charcoal. This was the first mask where the essence smelled so wonderfully citrusey so points for that right away! I do wish there was a few more mLs of essence in the package as there was juuuust enough to make sure the sheet mask adhered to my face, but my skin felt great afterwards just like I had drenched it in a hydrating serum. I am glad I got the 4 pack of these because I really enjoyed the scent, the unique ingredients list and of course the long-lasting results! Now, I am imagining how much better my skin would have felt with the HydrExtreme serum AND this sheet mask!
