Molecular Nails: Amanita muscaria aka “Red Cap Mushroom of Death”!

Hello!

I thought it was time to do another molecular nail art since people seemed to like my amino acid nails. I had no idea until recently that my original amino acid nails actually made their way to the Science Memebase! Unfortunately, they have been renamed as Feynmann Diagram nails which is COMPLETELY wrong! Feynmann diagrams are physics diagrams that show the movement of atomic particles and look nothing like amino acids! Sigh…the Internet sometimes…

Anyway here is Amanita muscaria! When I was in Biology, this was the most famous mushroom of all and because it was actually found on campus we were told to NEVER eat them! Death by A.muscaria is actually pretty rare, but it’s more well-known for its hallucinogenic properties thanks to two main psychoactive molecules": muscimol and ibotenic acid which are proudly featured on my ring finger and thumb!

Here is A.muscaria in their natural habitat. They’re cute huh?

  1. Love how you tied in science with nail art! It's too bad they mis-labelled your nail work though. That would frustrate me to no end :S

    1. Thank you! Yes, sooo frustrating! There were even comments about how I didn't know what I was doing because I drew the wrong images on my nails! I mean, my watermark was right on the picture, they could have looked it up!

    1. I keep thinking of how I would do DNA nails because it has been on my list, but there is no way in hell I'm going to attempt drawing the DNA helix! I can do the nucleotide bases, but forget the helices!

  6. Oh my gosh! I love them! I'm a chemistry major but since entering the working world and straying from being in a chem lab i kind of lost my interaction with stuff like this. I must try to do something soon with molecules! Absolutely awesome, thanks for inspiring me
