Recent Beauty Sinnage

I think that’s going to be my new word for “hauls” from now on. “Sinnage” feels much more appropriate! I have been keeping tabs on myself regarding my beauty product spending since May and it has been quite the eye opener. I’m almost ashamed to say the actual number, but as of last month I was around the $400 mark which is insane! Even though this includes everything from makeup to soap to shampoo, it doesn’t feel like that much as the weeks go by, but when you add it all up it’s staggering! For the month of September I’ve really really tried to be good, but I know myself well enough to know that I can’t go cold turkey. My goal is to stay around the $200 mark which I have managed to so far. This number also includes my subscription boxes. Most of the items that I have purchased below are from last month with a must have slip-up at the end!

MUA recently had a 25% off sale to celebrate 25000 Facebook likes and then the lovely Nadine from Bunny and Spice alerted me to a free shipping code as well so I figured now was the time to finally get myself the infamous Heaven and Earth Palette! I also picked up the more colourful Glitter Ball Palette and two 3 in 1 Extreme Contour Eye Pens in brown and black. All together, I paid about $12 with the exchange which I thought was VERY reasonable!

These next three items I purchased using my remaining Glymm points as my subscription will be ending in October and I wanted to make the most of those hard-earned Glymm points! It took me FOREVER to decide which Butter Londons to get because I already have so many nail polish colours that it’s hard not to find duplicates. I also picked up the full size version of the Naked Princess lip gloss that I received in last month’s Glymm Bag because I loved its scent, texture and colour. I would never pay $26 for this lip gloss though so I will enjoy my full size while I have it!

Next up is a little Nail Polish Canada sinnage with Essie – Mojito Madness and mini versions of Orly’s Electronica Collection. There was also a promotion for getting a free Soulstice Spa nail polish so I picked Troy which is a glittery black/gold polish.

I found these super cute Ecotools kabuki brushes on sale at Winners! I couldn’t resist the aluminum handles with the adorable nature print on them! This set was $12.99.

I swore to myself that a girl only needs one Naked palette, but then…Urban Decay opened up at my Shoppers Drug Mart this month right around 20x the points time…and that’s when Naked 2 happened! I have been loving this palette though and now that my Urban Decay purchases can get me Shoppers points, I will be definitely be purchasing through Shoppers instead of Sephora!

Is anyone else struggling with their beauty addiction? Really, what I should be doing is not reading beauty blogs anymore, but we know that’s not a possibility ;)

  1. I hear you, sister! I'm in the process of cutting some sub boxes, but it's so hard! Winners is a trap for me, and online deals are even worse. I'm getting better though, but sometimes deals are soooo tempting!

BTW,I love the Butter London's, the Heaven and Earth and the Naked2.

    1. Winners will be the death of me! There is always something to buy and you have to get it right away or someone else will!

  2. I WAS struggling, then my supervisor lost some funding which in turn lead to me losing MY funding, so.. I cut back. A lot. But I had no choice, so it made it pretty easy. No point going into debt over polish and makeup :) I just keep a mental list of the things I do want to buy once I graduate and get a job, lol.

    2. The Naked palette is all any girl needs for neutrals!

I hear you on the funding...my fiance has been writing an application for an operating grant for 8 million...kind of a big deal, but it's been really stressful the last few weeks with getting this together..

    3. Wow that's huge! What does he do? Crossing my fingers it all works out, things are tough out there right now :/

    4. He's a programmer/statistical analyst, but works with transplant data because he also has a Genetics degree. We met in Cell Bio lab actually! :)

    6. Wow, he's got the perfect combo for science.. stats/math and I don't get along ;)
Yeah.. it's so so depressing right now. There was a recent opening at Dal for a lab instructor.. only requirement was to have a BSc. and half the applicants had PhD's. Pretty awful when you can't get a job with a PhD and a decent publication record.

    7. I know! You go through so much school and so many years of academic bureaucracy...I have so much more respect for those with PhDs than those with MDs!

I really like the gloss you got but have only heard of it because of a couple glymm unboxings I saw.

    1. LOL, glad you like the new term! It's appropriate no?
I wonder if I really needed the Heaven and Earth palette if I already had both of the Naked palettes, but the palettes were such a good deal I couldn't say no!

  4. I got myself the heaven and earth palette too and been using it this week. So far so good, just wishes it had a matte colour or two. Enjoy it all..

    1. That's true, most of the shades are shimmery. That's when the Naked palette is nice because it has a bit of both.

  5. I really know what you mean ! I am thinking of doing a "no buy" month, just to discipline myself and enjoy the products I already have (and also clear some space lol). There are just too many opportunities and I lack the will to resist them !!

You got some great deals though ! I too have to spend my Glymm points; I don't know on what for now...

    1. I don't know if I could do a no buy month...I would go through massive withdrawal and buy Sephora by the end of it!

  6. Yay for hauls! I saw that kabuki set on CVS.com, I believe it was, a week or so ago and I showed it to Faraz saying how cute it looked and he's like "..what's the point of it?" LOL.
I'm currently trying to fight the beauty addiction.. I just got that huge order of nail polishes and I want to order more! I love all of the stuff you got, I'm so glad you got the Naked 2 and have been loving it! :D (Maybe you can share some shade combos you like with me!)

    1. Haha, boys don't understand. LOL!
I haven't quite tried out certain combinations on the Naked 2 palette. I want to actually do a smokey eye or something, but haven't had the time to try.

  7. omg I love everything you got!! Yea, beauty products are addicting...I haven't calculated how much I've spent in the last few months (I'm a little scared) but I know it's a lot! Eek. Everything is just too awesome to pass up on! lol

  8. uuuugh I want the Naked 2 palette so, so bad. Every time I find myself looking at cosmetic websites I have to slap my hand because I am back to being a broke student and really shouldn't be buying more stuff. So, thanks for posting your "sinnage" (great term btw), now I can live vicariously through you! :P

  10. Loving the Sinnage! I too have to limit myself with my 'addiction' or I could easily put myself into debt. LOL Plus whenever anyone sees my umm 'collection', I get a lot of O-M-Gs HAHA kinda embarrassing.
I am still jealous that your Shoppers carries UD ... ahhh the injustice!!!

  11. Ah Jayne! We struggle with the same disease, perhaps we should start a support group
I think I have to put myself on a make-up/product ban sometime in my near future - say mid-october after my trip to Buffalo hehe

SDM has the best program out there and thankfully most of my better make-up ends up being free thanks to my optimum points! Perhaps some tips and tricks in the future to help you maximize those points!!

    1. LOL, I'm not ready to quit my beauty habit cold turkey...

Most of my more expensive makeup is also thanks to SDM bonus redemption days as well. I am all over 20x the points days!

    1. Live like a pauper, I know! I have some huge purchases coming up for my wedding so I think I might definitely have to put a stop on the beauty products in the next year!

  13. Beauty Blogs get me in so much trouble!!! You got a ton of really awesome stuff. I don't think we have an Urban Decay counter at our Beauty Boutique though. I'm not sure the Naked 2 Palette is for me thought with all the metallics (even though I adore it!) but maybe I can still get the the original!

    1. I think I like the original Naked palette a little bit more because there were mattes in it, but yes beauty blogs are sooo dangerous!

  14. Ever since I entered the blogging world almost a year ago, I found myself buying and browsing much more beauty products than I have ever been. Good thing is I got great products after reading bloggers' reviews and didn't have to waste so much money on crappy products. But it's hard to control my spending. Very nice palette. Are most of the shades pretty shimmery?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. They are all pretty much shimmery which works for me because that's what I normally wear, but I can see how someone would want some matte shades in there.
It's true, I have discovered some amazing products through reading blogs and also have also spent a lot of money too! I have no regrets though, I love this community and how supportive we all are of our love for beauty products!

  16. I struggle with my spending too.. I find I am fine during the week because I am so busy with work but on Saturday's it has become a ritual to go to Shoppers and the Mall..it's dangerous.. I love how you said "and that's how the Naked2 happened" haha that made me laugh!

    1. LOL, that's honestly how it felt! I saw the UD display, knew it was 20x the points and thought to myself that I should just let the inevitable happen!
