Review–Clarins Pure Melt Cleansing Gel

This review is long overdue as I have mentioned it as a favourite in the past and had some questions about how it worked due to its unique texture. I have been using this as a makeup remover since the beginning of the year and have enjoyed how easily it removes all types of makeup while leaving my skin soft and supple.

A lightweight cleansing gel that transforms into an oil and then into a milk. Clarins reinvents cleansing with this innovative, triple texture/action cleanser that eliminates even the heaviest make-up while caring for your skin. Cleansing was never so easy or pleasurable.

Price: $36/125mL

Packaging: Standard squeeze bottle.

Scent: Very faint floral scent.

Formula: This is where this product gets interesting! Like it has multiple personality disorder! On application, it’s a clear gel that melts as you rub it all over your skin that traps all makeup and whatever else is on your face. Then, as you massage the product into your skin, it starts feeling really oily. The first time I used it, I thought the oil would NEVER come off with water, but low and behold it did! In this product’s final stage, it becomes a milky white cream that just washes off. My skin actually feels clean and cleansed and not the least bit oily!

The featured ingredient in this product is marula oil and what’s so special about it? Marula oil is extracted from the nuts of the marula tree and has a high concentration of fatty acids and natural antioxidants, like tocopherols, sterols and flavonoids. Tocopherols are often found in anti-aging creams. The claim on the box is that marula oil is supposed to “comfort skin”. I tried to figure out what this really meant, so to make an educated guess “comfort” might mean that if you have sensitive skin with redness, flavonoids have anti-inflammatory abilities that might be able to soothe any redness (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flavonoid, Nov. 20, 2012).

Final Verdict: I love the way this cleansing gel works! I feel like there is a science experiment happening on my face every time I use it! It is a little bit messier than a makeup wipe, but as I mentioned earlier, the way my skin feels after using this product more than makes up for it. I have dry skin, but this is a product that is suitable for all skin types and lasts quite awhile as a little bit of gel goes a long way as I find myself only using a dime-sized amount each time. All in all, this product is one of my ultimate favourites!

P.S. Check out the logo that Christa designed for me! I have no design skills whatsoever nor do I have the patience to learn so thank goodness for friends who can! Thank you Christa!

  1. This sounds really awesome, especially the phases! I think the price would be a little too much for me because it seems like I go through cleansers so fast! It does sound like a science experiment on your face would be fun.. especially if it's beneficial, haha.

Aww, I'm glad you like it, Jayne! You're so welcome. (:

  5. I am just getting into Clarins products, but they have some great products! I've tried a sample of this cleansing gel... I've been debating it, but now I'm sold haha. I've always thought of them as a skincare line, but they also have a great makeup line x

    1. LOL, glad I could be of service! I started using Clarins because my skin totally changed when I turned 25. It just got dry and I wanted something super moisturizing that didn't have a strong scent. Clarins smells like the way a face product should!
