January 2013 Glossybox

This month’s Glossybox theme is all about staying moisturized which I am all for in the winter months. Although this month didn’t have any WOW items, again most are items that I would use regularly. Was this box worth $21 though?

Wella Professionals Brilliance Leave-In MousseDSC_0080

This fine mousse with orchid extract melts into hair for a smooth, lightweight touch.

Thoughts: I know that we have essentially been getting the whole Wella hair care line, but I’m just thinking of it like a very slow Prive box! I really don’t mind if Glossybox brings back brands that we have tried before unless we have all stated in our surveys that we hate them! I don’t normally fuss with my hair too much, but now that I have bangs I have been using a lot more product and experimenting more. I’ve stayed away from mousse in the past because I always overdo it, but if this promises to be lightweight I might have to give it a try.

Full size: 190g/$17.99

I received: *FULL SIZE*

Too Faced Lip Injection ExtremeDSC_0081

A day or night moisturizing plumping lip gloss. Feel the tingle for an immediately fuller pout. Paraben -free!

Thoughts: At first I thought I was missing this product because I couldn’t find it amongst the folds and crinkles of black tissue! This is a teeny tiny sample, but knowing the price of Too Faced products, this doesn’t surprise me. “Tingly” lip products scare me a little bit because of an allergic reaction I had to one a few years back. I’ll just make sure to try this at home in case my lips balloon to carnival proportions.

Full size: 0.2oz/$39.00 (according to Sephora website!)

I received: ~0.060z/$11.70

Burt’s Bees Naturally Nourishing Milk & Honey Body LotionDSC_0082

Luxurious and lightweight body lotion with milk to nourish and honey to soften skin. Clinically proven to moisturize up to 24 hours!

Thoughts: I have received two little sachets of this in a past Glymm bag and I quite liked it so receiving a deluxe sample in a tube is awesome! I have always liked Burt’s Bees products and this moisturizer is no exception. I love the scent and the hydration it provides.

Full size: 170g/$12.99

I received: 25g/$1.91

Nivea Essential Lip CareDSC_0083

Enriched with jojoba oil and natural shea butter, Nivea essential lip care nurtures your lips while preventing moisture loss, leaving them soft and smooth.

Thoughts: Being the lip balm freak that I am, I cannot believe I have never tried one of these Nivea ones! I LOVE the packaging so I was pretty pleased to see this product even though I know it’s not a “luxury” one.

Full size: 4.8g/$2.00

I received: *FULL SIZE*

Surprise! Vitabath Hand Creme in Citrus TwistDSC_0084

Thoughts: This was a surprise as it was a gift from Glossybox as an early birthday gift chosen as their most favourite moisturizing product of the year. I love citrus scents so this hand creme is perfect.

Full size: 4.2oz/$15.00 (Vitabath website)

I received: 2.1oz/$7.50

Beauty So Clean Cosmetics Sanitizing WipesDSC_0086

These convenient cosmetic wipes are effective for sanitizing makeup that accumulates visible debris like dust, lint and food particles.

Thoughts: I’ve never really seen the point of these for personal use and are the only product in January’s Glossybox that I would never use. I’ve used one once on a lipstick and that was about it.

Full size: 48 wipes/$12.50

I received:12 wipes/$3.13

Total Value of January Glossybox: $44.23

The fact that Too Faced products are so expensive was very helpful in bolstering the overall price. So, is this box worth the $21/month we are now supposed to pay? I don’t think so. Glossybox now has 3, 6 and 12 month subscriptions that lower the overall price of the boxes a little bit, so I’ve signed up for a 6 month subscription as I do like the boxes, but I just don’t think they’re really worth $21. The old $15 price was SO much nicer!

  1. I was much more comfortable with the previous price of these as well
I'm not going to lie, I was not impressed at all with this months box so I am hoping next months will be a little better. I'm kinda tired of seeing drug store brands in these

    1. I know, the drugstore brands are a bit of a letdown, so I'm not sure why I stay subbed. Maybe it's the full sizes? I really don't know!

  2. Great looking box, and I love Burt's Bees, but definitely not worth $21! I think Glossybox is great, but a little overpriced xoxo

    1. It was reasonable at $15, but at $21 not so much!

  3. Wow, I don't think that's worth $21 at all. But I guess the feeling of surprise and discovering something new might be worth it? :)

    1. I think that's it! I know that I wouldn't have been able to afford this in my starving student days!

  4. Aw doesn't seem that it's worth $21 :( I do like that it came with Nivea lip balm, though!

  5. Yeah this month's box was lackluster for me. I had no real feelings good or bad about this box. Glossybox needs to amp it up to live up to the price increase. The Jan US box blew our Canadian box out of the water.

    1. I wanted to wait until I could redeem and then pull out, but now that I have another 6 months I guess I will see! I've timed it so that it'll end around my birthday.

  8. Aw :/ kind of disappointing for $21.. I didn't receive January's box because I opted out for the month... but I will be receiving February's box -- I saw the teaser and it looked interesting. Plus I still have some glossydots to redeem :) x

  9. I cancelled my glossybox subscription. I was tired of getting drugstore quality for the higher price and that whole Avon lip product fiasco really made me take the plunge, cancel glossybox and switch to ipsy. I am really much happier with the ipsy bags. Its $14.95 a month for Canadians and the products are of higher caliber. I might try glossybox again if it improves, so thank you for posting the contents of your box.

    1. I DO like Ipsy more than GB as the products are WAY better in terms of selection and luxe quality.

    1. I know me too, I hope they listen to their subscribers and get more non-drugstore brands in!
