BATH & BODY | Nova Scotia Fisherman Skincare Review

Seeing as how it is the Canada Day long weekend, I thought it would be fitting to share a new-to-me as well as Canadian brand that I have been enjoying called Nova Scotia Fisherman! Can you tell which province this company is from?! I often romanticize the Maritimes and they are still on my list of places to visit before I die so whenever I get a chance to get just a little bit closer to them, I welcome it with open arms! Started by Uncles Perly and his nephew Les, Nova Scotia Fisherman makes use of one key ingredient - Nova Scotia sea kelp which is rich in vitamins and a whackload of minerals. The company itself is also one that prides itself on creating jobs for those in rural Nova Scotia as well as giving back by having a portion of EVERY sale go towards The Nature Conservancy of Canada.

The Nova Scotia Fisherman range focuses mostly on body care products like soaps, lotions and lip balms with three of the bestsellers being featured today. The packaging feels inherently cozy with its nautical theme and sea colours that I truly feel like I am getting a taste of the Maritimes.

The Naturally Moisturizing Hand and Body Cream* (100mL/$11.95 CDN) is highly moisturizing and is NON-GREASY. My favourite! This is really great for dry patches and sandal feet! The scent is fairly neutral as there is no added fragrance and is slightly floral with a hint of herbal. I thought it would be quite light in consistency based on the packaging (I always think pots have the most hydrating moisturizers), but I was pleasantly surprised. It also comes in two other formulations with seabuckthorn and shea as well as sea fennel and bayberry. Also a great hand cream for those that work at the computer or blog about beauty products a lot...

The Fisher-Mint Lip Balm* (9.9g/$6.95 CDN) is a new scent and has actually become one of the lip balms I constantly reach for for its "bigger and better" size. You will notice that it is a lip balm with a MUCH larger diameter than most for better coverage and extreme care for dry lips or lips exposed to harsh elements. Almost all of my "at home" lip balms have mint in them because I find the scent and feeling soothing so this particular scent is totally my jam. It smells absolutely wonderful with a touch of rosemary and I cannot get enough of it!

I do have one qualm with this product though and it is the packaging. To get more product, you have to push from the bottom, but if you push up too much product you cannot push it back down. This combined with the non-twist off cap resulted in some smushed lip balm. The cap is a snap-on and was really not my favourite though I *heart* the product so much!

INGREDIENTS: Cera Alba (Beeswax), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Oil, Fucus Vesiculosus (Nova Scotia Sea Kelp), Olea Europea (Olive) Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Organic Coconut Flavor, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Agave Americana Leaf Extract, Citrus Sinensis (Sweet Orange), Tocopherol (Vitamin E)

I am obsessed with body scrubs since I have to exfoliate every day or I start to break out so I had high hopes for the Salt-N-Sea Body Scrub* (153g/$15.95 CDN). Initially, when I first smelled this product in the jar I wasn't too excited. It was slightly citrusey, then become something more herbal which I wasn't a fan of, but oddly enough when I was using it in the shower, the scent was great! It's almost like the combination of steam and water brought this scrub to life! This scrub exfoliates with sea salt which dissolves as you massage the oils into your skin. I did not need any moisturizer on my body when I used this which is always a plus.

Final verdict: Every product I tried was lovely with the lip balm and scrub being my favourites. Prices are also incredibly reasonable and the ingredients are solid.
