It has been a challenge keeping up with my #LunarFebruary posts as weather and work have been putting a damper on things, but sheet masks are something I can handle and because I use them only at night, it works out well with my schedule. This week, I am all about looking alive and at least trying to feel good while I do everything I can not to get sick from this horrible flu that has been making its way through North America!
Anything that brightens the skin is probably the easiest way to look your best and I'm sure many of you have seen the Taiwanese brand, My Beauty Diary, in places like T&T and those random Asian cosmetics stores in Crystal Mall. MBD has a TON of sheet masks and from what I have seen, correct me if I'm wrong, specialize mainly in cotton sheet masks. I picked up the 2-Step Asia Brightening Pack (this is a series which has other masks for other continents) at T&T because I have been enjoying the multi-step sheet masks and the fact that some of the ingredients are Eco-certified, as indicated by the red stamp on the back of the box!
This two step sheet mask is designed to brighten, smooth and hydrate the skin. Nothing you haven't heard before right?
After cleansing and toning, start with Step 1 which is the Job's Tears Brightening Mask. I found the actual sheet mask quite large for my face resulting in lots of wrinkles in the mask itself once it was on my face. The fit was NOTHING like the promotional video where the girl's skin was silky smooth! I mean, I know they pin back clothes on models, but sheet masks? Who knows...
Leave the mask on for 20 minutes which for me was 2 rounds of Bruno Mars "Versace on the Floor", followed by Taylor Swift's "Look What You Made Me Do" and 50 Cent "Just a Little Bit". Remove the mask and massage in remaining essence.
Step 2 is the Wild Yam Hydra Cream which feels like a gel moisturizer and is applied on top. I like that the overall finish was smooth and not too tacky! Note that the cream has cyclopentasiloxane and dimethicone which helps in giving skin that smooth finish. The sheet mask essence does not contain any silicones so if you would rather be silicone free at night, like myself, just use your favourite moisturizer and use Step 2 in the morning.
Final verdict: My skin is left hydrated, bouncy and ever so slightly tacky. It's a tackiness I can live with as it doesn't make me feel like things are going to stick my face like glue. All in all, a decent mask system at a great value as I picked up a box of 8 for around $18.
Have you tried My Beauty Diary? What should I be trying next?
