I will admit that even though I normally go for eyeshadow palettes first, with the Maybelline Total Temptation Collection, I went eye-first for the coconut-scented mascara! This new collection is all about bold brows, full lashes and smokey eyes that can be worn during the day and at night. I have always had good luck with Maybelline so I was anxious to dive into the collection and give it a test drive!
I like that this is not a huge collection, though that may change later on as there are no lip products, and consists of the: Total Temptation Eyeshadow + Highlight Palette*($17.99 CDN), Total Temptation Definer Brow Pencil* ($11.99 CDN) and the hero product of this family, the Total Temptation Mascara* ($11.99 CDN).
The Definer Brow Pencil has a rounded spoole and tear drop shaped pencil tip to give fuller, softy defined brows. Ever since I had my eyebrows microbladed I haven't really been using any brow products, but as my brows are fading a bit now every so often I will spruce them up depending on my makeup look OR if I am about to take photos! I have the shade 310 in Medium Brown which was perfect for me, but the tear drop pencil didn't make or break it for me. I didn't find it any easier or harder to fill in my brows.
Now, onto the hero product of the group! This coconut-scented mascara promises full, fluffy lashes without weighing them down. Firstly, the scent of this mascara as more like marzipan not really like coconut, but I actually quite liked the formula! My lashes definitely look thicker and STAY UP! I have read that this formula didn't hold a curl well, but as much lashes have never been able to curl (an eyelash curler just pushes them up without the curl) I was just happy to have thicker lashes that didn't fall flat after a couple of hours!
Ah, the shadow palette. You have one side with more sunkissed shades and the other with slightly more dramatic smokey shades complete with a complimentary highlighter. Both are perfectly wearable on anyone and can take your look from day to night easily.
While the shadows had good colour payoff, but there was a lot of fallout! Even just rubbing my finger into the pans disrupted them and now my palette is pretty powdery. The formula felt soft, but perhaps was not dense enough hence the fallout. The matte shades were especially nice and performed better than the more shimmery shades. The highlight shades were decent and my cheekbones were especially happy.
Face:
Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft Matte Hydrating Foundation in #75 Natural Beige
IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores*
Total Temptation Brow Definer in #310 Medium Brown*

Apply primer all over the lid and under eyes. I didn't have a drugstore primer so I am using the MAKE UP FOR EVER Eye & Lip Primer*.
I will be using the left side of the Total Temptation Palette* starting with the first shimmery cream shade all over the lid and up to brow bone.
Apply the matte orange shade on just the lid.
Apply the matte brick shade on brow bone as transition shade.
Apply matte dark brown shade along lower lash line.
Line lower water line and upper last line with Annabelle Kohl Duo in Brownie*.
Apply Total Temptation Mascara* to top and bottom lashes.
Cheeks:
Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in #20 Peach Satin
Gold highlight shade from Total Temptation Palette*
Lips:
Annabelle Waterproof Lipliner in Java*
Essence Lipstick in Creamy Nude
Final verdict: This collection had its hits and misses and for what we are now paying for drugstore makeup, it's hard for me to say you need every piece. As much as I wanted to love the eyeshadow and highlighter palette, I feel for $18 that you should just pay a little more and get a better eyeshadow palette. Yes, the size of the shadows and highlighter are decent, but I have definitely been spoiled when it comes to using products with beautiful textures AND payoff so the palette is a pass from me. The brow pencil is fine, but nothing new which leaves the mascara. Now, the mascara I probably would have bought because of the scent, but it's actually one that works on my lashes so out of everything, this would be the product I would go for!
The Maybelline Total Temptation Palette is available now at drugstores across Canada.
