NAILS | Ikat Velvet #CBBxManiMonday

Getting on the computer to type has been at bit painful as over the last two days my left eye has suddenly decided to get all swollen. It started on Sunday night after we went for a walk and I just figured that I got something in my eye while we were outside, but when I woke up the next morning, my eye was swollen. I went to work anyway, but I was so self-conscious all day because now that half my face is covered, all you see are my eyes and eyebrows so if one of those isn't lookin' too good, it's pretty noticeable. Luckily I didn't have too many clients to deal with, but all of my coworkers noticed and were like "What's wrong with your eye?!" which made me feel a bit like a leper.

The Ikat print and velvet nails were really popular in the nail art world about 5-7 years ago and I feel like that was kind of the sweet spot for nail art. The designs now don't seem quite as interesting IMO as I find the minimalist look for nail art is what has been trending in the last year or so which isn't exactly my style, but I GET why people enjoy it.

I had picked up this Ciate Emerald Nail Art Kit probably about 5-6 years ago and inside was some flocking powder which I had been wanting to try for the longest time. Flocking powder gave the "muppet nail art" look and is really easy to achieve because all you need to do is paint your nails and then while they are still wet, sprinkle flocking powder all over them. Brush off the excess and you are left with velvet nails! They feel a bit strange without top coat, but incredibly it's not like they shed everywhere or rinse off when you wash your hands! The velvet look actually does stay, but I had to get rid of them because they felt so weird. The Ikat print I have done before and I really liked this summery and bright colour combination.
