MAKEUP | The Face Shop Rouge Powder Matte Lipsticks

When these Face Shop Rouge Powder Matte Lipsticks first launched through Avon over the summer, I was fully convinced that I would wear even MORE makeup at work because I now needed some heavy duty, long-lasting products to make sure things didn't budge under my face mask, but things changed rather quickly once Fall/Winter came around. I feel like a bit of a fraud reviewing lip products other than balms, glosses and serums now, but if I don't use lipsticks in this space, I will probably never use them again for the foreseeable future so think of my lipstick posts as an ode to what I miss about life pre-pandemic!

I love The Face Shop and having it be part of the Avon family is an amazing introduction for the Western world into Korean Beauty. While I have mainly focused on their skincare (because it's affordable and effective), their makeup while not quite like Western brands has always been solid in performance rivaling what we would find at Sephora. Korean makeup is generally very natural, focusing on skin that looks healthy with the lips never being a wild colour, but generally how they would look after eating a popsicle.

Coming in six shades, the Rouge Powder Mattes are an airy and lightweight formula that while full coverage, have a slightly blurry finish giving the lips a more casual daily wear look which I can actually kind of understand. There is something a matte lip that is intensely pigmented that gives a look for formality and I have always found it to be a quick way of looking "put together" in the mornings when I didn't feel like putting too much effort into my makeup.

The formula is incredibly smooth, smells a little like birthday cake and does feel completely weightless on the lips. Though the finish is matte, I do not feel like it accentuates my lip wrinkles which I believe is because of the high dimethicone content. As we know from makeup primers, dimethicone creates a smooth canvas across the skin which is what is going on with my lips! Though they are intended to be long-lasting, friction does not mix with these so these are a no-go with face masks. Without anything physical sitting on top, the formula DOES last the day even with eating.

Final verdict:
I liked all three shades I was sent, but Beige and Rose Powder were my favourite shades. These are easy shades for anyone as they are fairly neutral and as I mentioned, super comfortable to apply and wear all day (just not with a mask).
